Saigo birdied the final hole at The Club at Carlton Woods (The Woodlands, Texas) in the regular round, equaling the total score of -7 with Kim Hyo Joo (Korea), Yin Ruoning (China), Ariya Jutanugarn (Thailand) and Lindy Duncan (USA). For the first time in the history of the tournament, up to 5 golfers participated in the playoff to find the champion.
Among this group, Jutanugarn has two major titles at the 2018 US Women's Open and the 2016 Women's British Open, Kim Hyo Joo has one major at the 2014 Evian Championship, and Yin Ruoning has one major at the 2023 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Duncan and Saigo are both looking for their first LPGA titles.
On the par-5 18th playoff hole, while his opponents ahead of him all made mistakes, Saigo putted the ball onto the green with 3 strokes. With the ball just over two feet from the flag, the 23-year-old golfer calmly made the decisive birdie putt to win the 2025 Chevron Championship.
This was Saigo's first win on the LPGA Tour and her first major title of her career. Saigo became the fifth major champion from Japan and the first since Ayaka Furue won the Evian Championship last July.

Last year, Saigo won the LPGA Tour's "Rookie of the Year" award, after an impressive debut with seven top-10 finishes in tournaments entered.
“I always dreamed of winning on the US Tour,” said Saigo, who won $1.2 million. “The birdie on the 18th hole (in the main round) gave me confidence in the playoff. I had a hard time not winning the tournaments I wanted to win, but now I am really happy with my first major.”
Saigo started the final day in joint-leading position with Ryu Hae Ran (Korea) with a total score of (-9). However, she encountered many difficulties, especially in the second half of the round with bogeys at holes 10, 11 and 15. She finished the round with 74 strokes (+2), scoring 3 birdies and having 5 bogeys.
Ryu and fellow South Korean Ko Jin Young and American Sarah Schmelzel share sixth place, two strokes behind the playoff group.
