Building a startup ecosystem

In recent years, the policy to support young entrepreneurs has been increasingly improved, including financial support, training, consulting, trade promotion, etc. Support programs are implemented at many levels, from the central to local levels. The Provincial Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Union (VYU) of the province have identified supporting young entrepreneurs to establish themselves, establish their careers and start-ups as a key task, especially innovative start-up projects.

In 2023, the Youth Union and Association at all levels in the province will promote propaganda activities to raise awareness of careers and jobs for young people, organize many career counseling activities; at the same time, establish and maintain the effective operation of cooperatives, cooperative groups, and economic development youth clubs. During the year, the Youth Union and Association at all levels in the province organized 194 counseling sessions and introduced jobs to 45,130 young people, of whom 14,430 young people have stable jobs.

Training activities, science and technology transfer, and introduction of good models in production and business have received attention from all levels of the Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Union of the province. The Union coordinated with the Youth Union at all levels to organize 43 training courses on family economic development and livestock conversion with the participation of more than 10,983 rural youth.

The Youth Union and Association at all levels in the province have also proactively coordinated to support capital for youth to develop the economy from the National Employment Fund and the Social Policy Bank. In 2023, the Youth Union and Association at all levels will support capital and facilities for 65 youth innovation and start-up projects, with a total value of more than 2.5 billion VND.

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Youth Union of the province - Le Thi Hong Ket said: "The work of supporting youth start-up models and projects has always been of interest to the Union's branches through regularly connecting and introducing youth start-up models and projects to business units to sign support agreements; coordinating with relevant units, departments and branches to support ideas on documents and procedures to obtain product certifications".

Realizing that the application of science and technology and digital transformation in business has become an inevitable trend, the Provincial Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Union of the province continue to organize the 4th "Innovative Startup" contest in Long An province in 2023.

Thereby, attracting 143 ideas and 29 projects. Of which, the winning ideas and projects will be selected to participate in provincial, regional and national startup competitions and will be supported with capital, connected with investors, etc. The Provincial Youth Union has chosen to support 4 innovative startup projects of TN.

Many projects supported

The Green Western Project implemented by Mr. Bui Thanh Duoc (born in 1988, residing in Tan Chanh commune, Can Duoc district) in 2020 is one of the four innovative start-up projects of the Youth Union supported by the Provincial Youth Union in 2023. The project produces products from sedge such as straws, fashion bags, wallets, backpacks, travel hats, etc., contributing to economic development, promoting the value of products from sedge and protecting the environment.

Although he encountered many difficulties on the path of starting a business, with his creativity and diverse, fashionable, and highly applicable products, his products received many positive feedbacks from consumers.

The highlight of the products is the skillful seams, dried sedge grass, anti-mold and laser engraved decorative images, accepting designs according to customer requirements for use or as gifts.

Currently, Mr. Duoc is expanding the project in Thanh Hoa and Duc Hoa districts. The sedge straw products have been exported to more than 10 countries such as the US, Australia, Germany, France, etc. Each month, he supplies the market with more than 3,000 bags, hats, backpacks, etc. and more than 1 million sedge straws. Thereby, helping more than 150 local workers have stable jobs and contributing to the development of the province's handicraft industry.

After the recent "Innovative Startup" competition, the Provincial Youth Union supported connections and guidance to bring DA products to e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, Postmart, creating conditions for Mr. Duoc to participate in training courses on building and developing product brands.

In addition, the Provincial Youth Union also introduced him to participate in the Tien River Delta Creative Youth Forum in Ben Tre province and the Mekong Delta Startup Competition; coordinated and supported product introduction at trade fairs and exhibitions to promote products, opening up many new business opportunities.

Mr. Do Quoc Huy (born in 1993) - Director of HP Long An Cordyceps Joint Stock Company (Thanh Phu commune, Ben Luc district), boldly started a business with the production and trading model of Cordyceps mushrooms since 2022. Up to now, he has achieved many successes, bringing the HP Long An Cordyceps mushroom brand closer to consumers.

By applying a closed, modern production process according to Japanese standards, a system of advanced equipment and a team of highly specialized technicians have contributed to creating high quality HP Long An Cordyceps mushroom products, rich in nutrients, ensuring food hygiene and safety.

Currently, each month, HP Long An Cordyceps Joint Stock Company produces about 50,000 jars of fresh mushrooms (equivalent to 1 ton) with 36 product lines.

At the recent provincial "Innovative Startup" competition, Mr. Huy introduced the project of artificially cultivating Cordyceps mushrooms using high technology to help ensure product quality and increase productivity. In particular, the application of freeze-drying technology is the most advanced technology today, helping to separate water from mushrooms, helping mushrooms to be preserved longer, and the nutrients in mushrooms are not lost.

After the competition, the project won second prize and the Provincial Youth Union connected the project to sign a cooperation agreement with the Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association and the Provincial Social Policy Bank to support capital, science and technology, and connect with experts and investors.

In addition, DA was also supported by the Provincial Youth Union to participate in a training course on sustainable creative business design organized by Viet Startup Incubator Joint Stock Company.

The projects of Mr. Bui Thanh Duoc and Do Quoc Huy are typical examples of successful startups, bringing high economic benefits and social values.
