Leaders of the Bac Kan Veterans Association offer incense to commemorate 10 female youth volunteers |
After the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu, which "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world", ending the 9-year resistance war against French colonialism, the Geneva Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina was signed. Our country was temporarily divided into two regions, the North was liberated, the South continued to fight against the invading American imperialists and their puppet government.
In early September 1954, the Politburo issued a Resolution "on the new situation, new tasks and new policies of the Party", emphasizing the task of "restoring railways, roads, river transport, post offices...". The Bac Kan youth volunteer force was mobilized to repair traffic routes, especially the section of National Highway 3 passing through the province.
Implementing the Government's policy of restoring and repairing National Highway 3 from mid-1955, more than 2,000 laborers and youth volunteers in Bac Kan province participated in the construction, repair and upgrading of the road surface, and rebuilding dozens of tunnels across streams. In early 1956, nearly 150 km of National Highway 3 was completed, thanks to which hundreds of tons of equipment and machinery were successfully transported to build Tinh Tuc tin mine (Cao Bang) on time and according to plan.
During the resistance years, many Bac Kan Youth Volunteer Companies participated in filling bomb craters, potholes, repairing bridges, building roads, bridges, culverts, etc. In May 1961, over 300 cadres and youth volunteer team members of the Assault Battalion of Bac Kan Provincial Youth Union set out to construct the Bac Kan - Na Ri road. This road passes through high passes, steep slopes, rocky mountains, deep ravines, especially the Ang Toong pass, making the construction very dangerous. Thanks to the determination of the entire Battalion, in 1965, the road was basically completed. With these outstanding achievements, the Battalion was awarded the Emulation Flag by the Central Youth Union as an excellent unit in the volunteer movement exceeding the first 5-year plan.
In 1962, to expand and upgrade the Cho Ra - Ba Be route, the youth volunteer force of Bac Kan province did not hesitate to face difficulties and hardships, determined to complete the Cho Ra - Ba Be route in 1965.
On June 14, 1960, the Bac Kan Youth Volunteer Company consisting of 180 people led by Comrade Be Thanh marched to Ha Giang to participate in the construction of the road from Ha Giang to the Dong Van - Meo Vac plateau. On the route of more than 180 km, the Bac Kan Youth Volunteer Company undertook the construction from Quan Ba Heaven Gate to Ma Pi Leng. This was a very dangerous road, the construction was very difficult and dangerous. In such difficult circumstances, the whole unit was determined to complete the task excellently, contributing to the common achievement of successfully building the "Road of Happiness", the road of historical and legendary solidarity of ethnic groups.
In 1965, in response to the urgent need of the resistance war against the American invaders, responding to the call of the Party and Uncle Ho "all for the South", hundreds of thousands of young people across the country volunteered to join the youth volunteer force to fight the Americans and save the country. On February 1, 1966, the 91 Bac Thai Youth Volunteer Team was established with 614 members, with the task of repairing and upgrading important routes, contributing to the circulation of goods, transporting weapons, food and provisions to the front line.
In response to the escalation of the war by the US imperialists, who fiercely attacked the transportation and irrigation works in the province, in November 1967, the Youth Volunteer Team against the US for National Salvation was established. The team played a key role in the construction, repair and rescue of irrigation works bombed by US aircraft.
To solve the urgent demands in transportation to serve the Southern battlefield, especially the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, in July 1973, the 28A-28B Youth Volunteer Company with 354 members was established. The Company had 106 members from Bac Kan province with the task of rebuilding bridges destroyed by enemy aircraft, repairing, upgrading and renewing many roads, contributing with the entire army and people of the whole country to make the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.
During the resistance war against the American invaders, generations of Bac Kan youth volunteers devoted themselves, sacrificed, and fostered the glorious tradition of Vietnamese youth volunteers; volunteering to do anything, going anywhere when the Fatherland needed them. They are truly shining symbols of revolutionary heroism and the young generation, and the pride of the province’s youth./.
