BTS member will be the torchbearer at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Jin, 31, of BTS, will be taking part in the upcoming Olympic Torch Relay as a torchbearer from South Korea, his agency announced. The event began in April in Olympia, Greece, and will reach France before the opening ceremony of the games.

Traditionally, the Olympic torch travels through various countries and ends at the site of that year's Olympic Games. This was first done at the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics.

The official schedule has yet to be announced, however, Jin will participate in this traditional Olympic journey to "spread the message of harmony and peace ."

The eldest of the seven-member K-pop group, Jin was the first member to return to the public eye last month after completing his mandatory 18-month military service. The other six members are still serving.

After his discharge, Jin held a large event where 1,000 fans were selected through a lucky draw and had the chance to hug the singer. Big Hit Music, the group's management company, announced on their fan platform Weverse that: "The event was prepared to fulfill Jin's wish to spend meaningful time with ARMY (the group's fan community) on BTS's debut day."

Along with his upcoming work at the Olympics, the singer shared with fans on Weverse: "I'm recording and filming variety shows. I'm trying to focus on work but still want to appear as much as possible. The shows and music will be available in a few months, so please wait a little longer."

In October 2022, Jin and his bandmates - RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook - performed a large-scale, ticketless concert called Yet to Come in Busan, South Korea. The event was held in support of South Korea's bid to host the 2030 World Expo and attracted a large number of ARMYs from around the world .

A few days after the performance, Big Hit Music, a subsidiary of Hybe Corp., announced that all seven members would be continuing their military service. The press release said it was “the perfect timing” and that the group members were honored to serve in the military.

In the future, BTS is expected to reunite as a full group in 2025 when all 7 members are discharged from the military.

The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics are scheduled to open on July 26. In addition to BTS' Jin, veteran rapper Snoop Dogg is reportedly set to make a "regular" appearance covering the event in a program called the Olympic Primetime Show.
