This morning (June 1), Ho Chi Minh City National University organized the second round of capacity assessment exams in 11 localities, including: Hue, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tien Giang and An Giang .

According to information from Ho Chi Minh City National University this morning, out of a total of 94,841 candidates taking the exam, 67,623 candidates took the first round and retook the second round; only 27,218 candidates took the exam for the first time (accounting for 28.7%). Thus, this exam has up to 71.3% of candidates taking the second round with the desire to improve their exam scores. Candidates who took both rounds will have their higher results used for admission consideration.

According to statistics from the organizing unit, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the largest number of candidates registering for the exam with 33,427 candidates. The number of candidates registering for the exam by exam location in Ho Chi Minh City is 46,338 students.

Previously, on the morning of March 30, 126,338 candidates took the first round of the competency assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University in 25 localities across the country. The results of the score distribution analysis showed that, of the 126,297 graded exams, the average score was 618.4 points, with 142 candidates scoring over 1,000 points. The candidate with the highest score in the exam was 1,060 points and the candidate with the lowest score was 40 points.

According to experts' analysis, the score distribution in 2025 is slightly skewed to the left compared to 2024 and 2023, indicating that this year's exam results are lower. The percentage of candidates with more than 600 points decreased by about 12% compared to 2024, but because the number of candidates taking the exam this year is much higher than the same period last year (up 34.3%), in absolute terms, in 2025, there will be 83,741 candidates with 600 points or more (still up nearly 10,000 compared to 2024). This predicts that competition among candidates will be fiercer in the admission process.

111 units use the entrance exam

This morning, candidates took a paper-based test consisting of 120 objective multiple-choice questions in 150 minutes.

In 2025, for the first time, the structure of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment test was adjusted to match the 2018 GeneralEducation Program. The test kept the structure of the language and mathematics sections, while increasing the number of questions in these two sections to increase the reliability and discrimination of the test.

The logic - data analysis and problem solving section is restructured into a scientific thinking section to assess candidates' ability in logic and scientific reasoning when solving real-life situations in the fields of science, technology, economics and society. The questions in the scientific thinking section are designed to provide information, data, facts, experimental planning, and experimental results, thereby requiring candidates to demonstrate their ability to understand and apply information, determine experimental results, and predict laws.

With this exam structure, although the structure has changed, the exam still asks for knowledge of all subjects as before. Students of the 2018 General Education Program this year will have to answer questions from subjects that were not studied during the 3 years of high school.
