Piloting smart traffic lights to overcome traffic regulation problems in Da Lat

Da Lat City proposed to pilot smart traffic lights while the current system is not synchronous and difficult to adapt flexibly to actual traffic density.

On May 28, the People's Committee of Da Lat City ( Lam Dong Province) proposed to pilot the intelligent traffic signal control system (ITS) solution at two key intersections of the city for a period of 30-60 days.

Accordingly, Da Lat City will pilot the ITS solution at two key intersections with high traffic density: Dinh Tien Hoang intersection at Da Lat University 5-way intersection and Dinh 2 intersection at Kim Cuc 4-way intersection. The cost of installing this pilot system will be covered by VNPT Lam Dong.

This solution applies artificial intelligence (AI) technology, does not interfere with existing systems, and does not use the state budget during the testing phase.

According to the People's Committee of Da Lat City, the locality currently has about 15 intersections with traffic light control systems installed. However, this system still has some limitations such as lack of synchronization, difficulty in adapting flexibly to actual traffic density, especially during rush hour, weekends, holidays or peak tourist season.

Previously, SGGP Newspaper reported on the shortcomings in the traffic light and sign system in Da Lat City. At some intersections, the waiting time for red lights is too long (more than 90 seconds), while the green light is short (only 24-34 seconds) and fixed at all time frames, not flexible according to the actual traffic situation, causing traffic congestion for a long time at some times of the day, causing frustration for traffic participants.
