9th grade excellent student competition in Ho Chi Minh City: number of students winning first prize increases

On March 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the results of the 9th grade excellent student exam for the 2024-2025 school year.

Accordingly, in the 2024-2025 school year, the whole city has 3,553 candidates registered to take the exam, of which 1,805 candidates won prizes (accounting for 51.08%). Specifically, 85 students won first prize (4.71%), 484 students won second prize (26.81%), 1,236 students won third prize (68.48%).

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said: The number and percentage of students winning first and second prizes in the 2024-2025 school year increased compared to the 2023-2024 school year, although the number of candidates taking the exam this year was lower.

Specifically, last year, 3,598 students took the exam, resulting in 1,981 winners: 72 first prizes (3.63%), 480 second prizes (24.23%) and 1,429 third prizes.

It is known that this year's 9th grade excellent student exam has many new points compared to the previous school year. This is the first year students take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, the exam questions are designed to assess thinking ability and the application of learned knowledge to solve practical problems.

This year is also the first year that the 9th grade gifted student exam has new subjects: natural science, history and geography.

In addition, the method of considering awards for the city-level 9th ​​grade excellent student exam for the 2024-2025 school year also changed compared to last year.

Accordingly, the percentage of students winning prizes is not more than 60% of the students taking the exam (in which the first prize winner is not more than 5% of the students winning prizes); The condition for winning a prize is that the candidate's exam must achieve 10/20 points or more.

Meanwhile, in the previous school year, the department applied the following method of awarding prizes: the percentage of students winning prizes was no more than 60% of the total number of students taking the exam. In which, the third prize was considered from 10 to under 15 points; the second prize was considered from 15 to under 18 points; the first prize was considered from 18 to 20 points.

It is known that students who win first prize in the city-level 9th ​​grade excellent student competition will be rewarded according to the resolution of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, specifically 10 million VND/student.
