In an interview with the Education and Times Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung - Deputy Head of the Communications and Admissions Department (University of Commerce) made predictions about the admission scores and gave advice to candidates when registering their admission wishes on the General Admissions Support System of the Ministry of Education and Training (System).
Benchmark forecast tends to decrease
* What do you predict about the university entrance exam scores this year?
- In general, the 2025 high school graduation exam score range is lower than the previous 2 years (2023 and 2024). Therefore, basically, the benchmark score tends to decrease compared to the previous year. For the University of Commerce, the benchmark score is forecasted to decrease by 1-2 points compared to the last 2 years.
This year, there are no separate quotas for each method, so the benchmark depends on the number of candidates with test scores for ability assessment, thinking assessment, and international language certificates. If the number of these candidates is large, the benchmark will not decrease much.
On the contrary, if there are not many candidates, the benchmark will decrease relatively. Especially for the school's "not hot" majors, the benchmark this year may decrease even more.
* How does the University of Commerce implement the equivalent conversion of input thresholds and admission scores ?
- 2025 is the first year that the Ministry of Education and Training requires equivalent conversion of input thresholds and admission scores of admission methods and combinations according to general instructions.
The University of Commerce will apply the general regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and base on the score conversion instructions of Hanoi National University (for capacity assessment test scores) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (for thinking assessment test scores).
In fact, most admission methods use the scores of two high school graduation exams, so there is no need to convert. With the admission method combining foreign language certificates and high school transcripts, the University of Commerce will convert and is expected to announce before 5:00 p.m. on July 23.
This year, the University of Commerce applies additional criteria in admission. Specifically, admission is based on majors (training programs) based on the principle of taking admission scores from high to low until the quota allocated by major (training program) is exhausted, regardless of the order of wishes between candidates.
If a candidate has been admitted to a higher priority option (option 1 is the highest priority), the candidate will not be considered for the next priority option.
For candidates admitted at the end of the list with admission scores equal to the standard score of the industry (training program), if exceeding the allowed quota, the School will consider candidates with higher high school graduation exam scores in Mathematics in 2025. If exceeding the quota, the School will consider the order of wishes with higher priority.

Advice for candidates
* Given some new points in this year's enrollment, what advice do you have for candidates?
- From now until July 28, there is still time for candidates to find out admission information of higher education institutions. Candidates can submit additional foreign language certificates; candidates, and evidence to get priority points for the school.
Note, even if you have registered for admission at the school, or even passed the direct admission, candidates are required to register their admission wishes on the General Admission Support System of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Candidates can refer to the benchmark scores of previous years according to the method of considering high school graduation exam scores to set reasonable admission wishes. In particular, they need to study the method of calculating admission scores between the methods of previous years, avoid thinking that they are at a safe threshold when in fact the calculation method has changed.
Some economic majors of top schools are still as hot as previous years, so the benchmark scores are still high. The registration of wishes should be divided into groups:
Group 1 is the major you love, even though the chances of getting in may be low. Group 2 is the majors you can study, with a chance of getting in even if it is not your favorite major. Group 3 is the majors that are especially safe, with a sure chance of getting in.
Currently, there is still enough time for candidates to learn about the industry/training program. Therefore, they can consult with their predecessors, on information channels or directly consult with the training institution...
In fact, many students have very high scores and are admitted to “premium schools” but when they start studying, they find that their major is not suitable, so they do not make an effort, leading to unsatisfactory learning results. When they graduate and start working, they do not find passion, motivation, and do not fully develop their strengths and abilities at work.
Therefore, choosing a major and school must be suitable to the family's ability, strengths, personality and economic conditions.

* According to you, when registering for admission on the System, what mistakes do candidates often make that need to be avoided?
- Many candidates are too sure and only register on the last day, leading to network congestion. At that time, the system has not saved/recorded the candidates' changed information, so they may not be admitted to the major they registered for.
Candidates can register and adjust their preferences an unlimited number of times. Therefore, if you have decided on a major and school, register immediately. If necessary, you can change the order of your preferences within the prescribed time.
From now until 5:00 p.m. on July 28, there is still enough time for candidates to continue thinking, changing, and adjusting their wishes. However, candidates need to note that they must complete the entire registration process from beginning to end, until these wishes are confirmed by the System. Candidates must not stop and exit halfway, because then the operations have not been recorded by the System. When changing wishes, candidates must do the same, paying attention to the final steps.
Thank you!
Public opinion believes that the Math and English exam questions of this year's high school graduation exam are more difficult than last year's, but in reality, the score distribution is quite good. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung believes that the admission scores for majors that use a combination of these two subjects will not decrease significantly.
