This year's second round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam had 92,272 candidates taking the exam at 80 locations in 34 exam clusters in 11 provinces and cities from the Central to the Southwest regions.
2,569 candidates absent from the second round of exams
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online right after the exam ended, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh - Director of the Center for Testing and Assessment of Training Quality of Ho Chi Minh City National University - said that the total number of candidates registered for the second round of the competency assessment exam was 94,841. Ho Chi Minh City was the locality with the largest number of candidates registered for the exam with 33,427.
Among the candidates who registered for the second round of exams, there were 27,218 new candidates, and 67,623 candidates who had participated in the first round and continued to register to improve their results. In total, there were 155,556 candidates registered for both rounds of exams in 2025.
"In fact, the total number of candidates taking the exam this morning was 92,272, with 2,569 absent, reaching a rate of 97.27%. The results of the second round of exams are expected to be announced on June 16," Mr. Chinh added.
Previously, the results of the first round were announced with an average score of 618.4. There were 142 candidates scoring over 1,000 points, of which the highest scorer scored 1,060.

The second round of the competency assessment test is more suitable than the first round.
According to records at the competency assessment test sites after the exam this morning, most candidates said the exam was quite suitable compared to the first round.
At the exam site of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), Dao Trong Tin, a student of Phuoc Thien High School, Dong Nai, was the earliest candidate to leave the exam room.
Sharing after the exam, Tin said: "The second round of the competency assessment test was more suitable than the previous round. I feel very comfortable because I successfully passed the 'gate of heaven' after many days of hard work solving questions and studying."
Candidate Lam Gia Yen Binh, Bac Lieu High School for the Gifted, also found the test this time easier than the first round, so he focused on doing it carefully with a more relaxed mindset. This candidate predicted that he would score over 800 points.
To date, more than 110universities and colleges have registered to use the results of the competency assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University for enrollment.
According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates need to register their admission wishes on the National Admissions System within the prescribed time.
Dinh Hoang Ngoc Thien was the first candidate to leave the exam site of the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University). According to Thien, the Vietnamese part was the easiest, while the English part was a bit difficult. Thien hopes to achieve a score of 900+.
"During the test, I will do the easy questions first and leave the difficult questions for last. I am taking the test to assess my ability to apply for university admission and also to prepare mentally and confidently before taking the upcoming 2025 high school graduation exam" - Thien shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, the structure of the 2025 competency assessment test has been adjusted to match the 2018 general education program. The test consists of 120 objective multiple-choice questions, with a test duration of 150 minutes and is taken on paper.
If a candidate takes both exams, the higher result will be used for admission consideration.
In 2024, using the results of the competency assessment exam, Ho Chi Minh City National University will enroll more than 9,200 students, accounting for more than 38% of the total enrollment target.
This year, more than 110 universities and colleges will use the results of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam. Admissions will be conducted according to the general plan of the Ministry of Education and Training.
