Last summer, Sancho was loaned to Chelsea from Man United, in a rather complicated contract.
Chelsea do not have to pay Man United anything to borrow Sancho. They only have to pay a portion of his salary, around £100,000/week. The rest is still paid by Man United (Sancho receives a salary of up to £15 million/year).
In return, the loan agreement includes a clause that Chelsea must buy Sancho outright for £25 million this summer. The condition for activating the contract is that Chelsea... ranks 14th or higher in the Premier League.
With this condition, Man United fans naturally assumed that their team had pushed the talented and troubled player out of Old Trafford. Indeed, at the end of the season, Chelsea ranked 4th in the Premier League, so they were forced to buy back Sancho according to the regulations.
But then the media recently announced a loophole in the contract, which is that Chelsea has the right to pay a fine of 5 million pounds ($6.8 million, equivalent to 176 billion VND) to avoid having to buy back Sancho.

For Chelsea, having to pay a fine is certainly not pleasant. But overall, this is still a reasonable decision for them to "cut their losses".
In the past 9 months, Sancho has hardly left a special impression. He scored 5 goals, contributed 8 assists in a total of 42 appearances. In the Premier League, Sancho has only started 19 matches.
For Man United, this is a real disaster. They only received a mere £5 million, while still having to pay Sancho a salary of up to £10 million last season.
Now, Man United must welcome back this talented and troubled star. He still has a contract with the "red devils" until next summer, along with an extremely high salary.
In 2021, Man United spent 75 million pounds to buy Sancho from Dortmund of Germany. But at Old Trafford, the English star only left disappointment. He only scored 12 goals in 83 appearances for Man United.
