Adapt and master digital technology

Faced with the strict requirements of digital transformation in journalism, journalists must constantly innovate their thinking, be dynamic and creative to adapt to and master digital technology.

* Journalist Dang Ba Tien, former reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper:

Nowadays, devices and technologies are very developed, effectively supporting the digital transformation of journalism. Not only electronic newspapers but also printed newspapers have applied many modern techniques and technologies in the production and presentation of journalistic works, helping the works become more vivid and attractive.

Press products are no longer simply straight lines of text as before, the application of technology has created charts, maps, pictures, illustrations, etc., helping press products convey more messages and information to readers. Digital journalism also creates connections and interactions between newspapers, between newspapers and readers, thereby expressing opinions and views on an issue or sharing and spreading information faster. Without digital transformation, revolutionary journalism will fall behind.

* Journalist Nguyen Quoc Bao, Dak Lak Radio and Television Station:

In the digital age, the question of what to write and how to write to "catch the trend" according to public demand is becoming more urgent. Journalists today must change their traditional journalistic thinking to digital journalism thinking. For the same event, if journalists know how to combine work on multiple platforms, they will create products of diverse types to meet the needs of different audiences. The value of a work, besides its "unique" topic, also lies in meeting the public's information needs at each time.

In order for journalists to master technology, it is necessary to increase training and coaching on skills and techniques in using digital technology , and equip them with appropriate machinery and equipment. But more importantly, each journalist needs to change their mindset and personalize in digital transformation. Instead of thinking and writing in the old motif, each journalist needs to become a storyteller using technology and a digital content creator.

* Journalist Tong Thi Hoai Thu, Vietnam News Agency Resident Office in Dak Lak:

Digital tools, especially artificial intelligence (AI), are a powerful support arm for journalists with many useful features. Each AI tool has its own strengths, journalists must clearly understand those strengths, choose the right AI tool in the information processing process, choose effective keywords and commands to create content that is closest to their wishes and ideas. Effectively exploiting AI tools helps journalists save some effort, time, and add creative ideas... in creating a multimedia journalism product. However, the use of AI in journalism also has many "dark sides" such as: the risk of fake news, inaccurate information, information copyright...

In the context that AI is actively “learning” from users to upgrade itself into better, more superior versions, users - especially journalists - need to constantly learn and proactively upgrade their knowledge and skills. At the same time, it is necessary to use AI intelligently and in a controlled manner, avoiding dependence on AI, which can lead to loss of “personality” and creativity in thinking and implementing topics.
