The whole family went to see a doctor for scabies.

Doctor Nguyen Minh Thu, Deputy Head of the Examination Department, Central Dermatology Hospital, said that at the beginning of summer, the number of patients coming for examination for common skin diseases in the summer increased sharply.

The most common skin diseases are: Parasitic infections, skin fungus, seborrhea, acne, folliculitis, prickly heat in children, hives...

In addition, the hospital also receives many patients with hyperpigmentation, skin burns due to swimming, sunburn, and working long hours in the hot sun.

On the morning of May 8, a family of 3 in Bac Ninh brought their 6-month-old baby to the Central Dermatology Institute for examination.

The patient's mother said that her child had been itchy and had many spots all over his body, on the back of his hands... for a month now, and self-treatment at home did not improve.

"When I saw the baby's symptoms, I immediately asked about the mother's illness. The mother had the same symptoms as the baby. The baby was diagnosed with scabies. Not only did the baby have to be treated, but the mother, father, and grandparents who regularly held and came into contact with the baby also had to be treated," said Dr. Thu.

Scabies is a fairly common skin disease caused by a parasitic insect on the skin, often occurring in spring and summer.

Scabies is a disease that does not cause serious consequences to the patient's health, but it causes very uncomfortable itching (especially at night) and is very contagious. Usually, if one person in the family has scabies, the possibility of other people in the family will easily get the disease.

Scabies is transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact of a person with scabies; and by sharing clothes, towels, bed sheets, etc.

People with scabies often scratch a lot due to intense itching, leaving behind many scratches, abrasions, papules, scabs, blisters, pustules, boils...

According to Dr. Thu, the bruises and scars on the mother and baby's bodies are like "brocade flowers".

Many agents cause summer skin diseases

Doctor Thu said that in the hot summer, there are many factors that cause more skin diseases.

Because in the summer, UV rays are very strong and long lasting, so they can easily cause sunburn, sunburn, and skin darkening.

Hot weather, people who have to work outdoors, children running and jumping a lot, sweating leads to inflammation of hair follicles, prickly heat...

In the summer, many insects, parasites, and fungi thrive, leading to susceptibility to disease.

In addition, improper hygiene also increases the risk of skin diseases.

Therefore, to reduce the risk of skin diseases in the summer, Dr. Thu noted that people should wear loose, airy clothes; should change clothes when soaked with sweat; when going out, need to protect themselves from the sun properly with wide-brimmed hats, sun-protective clothing, sunscreen; maintain proper hygiene, bathe regularly, do not wear damp clothes...

Especially for young children, it is necessary to use insect repellent sprays. Use moisturizing products because they are often in air-conditioned rooms. When insect bites cause inflammation and ulcers, you should go to the doctor for treatment to avoid the child scratching the ulcers, leading to long-term damage.

Faced with a large number of patients, to reduce waiting time, the Central Dermatology Hospital hopes that people will make an appointment in advance through the hospital's website.
