Detected 7 fake drugs, drugs of unknown origin

NDO - All 7 samples of fake drugs and drugs of unknown origin were tested for quality at Duc Anh Pharmacy, a subsidiary of Duc Anh Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Company Limited, No. 8, Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Lang Thuong, Dong Da District, Hanoi.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam ( Ministry of Health ) has just sent an official dispatch to the health departments of provinces and cities to notify about counterfeit drugs, drugs of unknown origin and handle violations. The official dispatch stated that this unit received Official Dispatch No. 942/KNTMPTP-KHTCKT from the Hanoi Center for Testing Drugs, Cosmetics and Food, attached with the Minutes of taking samples of drugs and cosmetics for quality testing and Analysis Certificate No. 625/KNT-25 reporting that the product sample with information printed on the label: DIAMICRON ® MR 60mg (Gliklazid), batch number: 23F603, Expiry date: 04.2026, did not meet the quality requirements for the Gliclazid Quantification indicator according to the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V-monograph Gliclazid Tablets with the result of 42.5mg/tablet (70.83% compared to the content printed on the label).

The above sample of DIAMICRON ® MR 60mg and six other samples taken for quality testing at Duc Anh Pharmacy under Duc Anh Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Company Limited, No. 8 Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Lang Thuong, Dong Da District, Hanoi all do not have information on the Circulation Registration Certificate number and/or Import License number; information on the drug manufacturing facility and drug importing facility.

The remaining six drugs are: Oseltamivir; Batch number M1164B01, manufacturing date 03.2021, expiry date 03.2023; Crestor 20mg (Rosuvastatin), batch number A23237030, expiry date 04.2026; Janumet 50/1000mg (Sitagliptin/Metformin), batch number: 24497505A, expiry date 07/2026; Plavix (Klopidogrel), batch number ELB04027, expiry date 05/2027; NEXIUM® 40mg Enterik Kapli Pellet Tablet (Esomeprazole), batch number 23H420, expiry date 09.2027; Crestor 10mg (Rosuvastatin) medicine, batch number A24236004, expiry date 07.2027.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Hanoi Department of Health to urgently report to Steering Committee 389 and coordinate with the police, market management agencies and relevant authorities to conduct inspections and checks on the compliance with pharmaceutical laws of Duc Anh Pharmacy under Duc Anh Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Company Limited, No. 8 Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Lang Thuong, Dong Da District, Hanoi; trace the origin of seven batches of products without information on the circulation registration number and/or import license number, the manufacturing facility, and the importing facility mentioned above; strictly handle the violating facility according to regulations.

The Department also requested the Department of Health of provinces and cities to inform drug trading and using establishments and people not to buy/sell, use the seven batches of products without information on the circulation registration number and/or import license number, manufacturing facility, importing facility as mentioned above; only buy and sell drugs at legal pharmaceutical business establishments; do not buy/sell drugs of unknown origin; promptly notify the health authorities and relevant competent agencies of any suspicious signs of production and trading of counterfeit drugs or drugs of unknown origin. On the other hand, urgently advise the People's Committees of provinces and cities to resolutely implement the opinions of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health, and organize a peak month to fight against counterfeit drugs.
