Lam Thuy Village: A bright spot in homeland development

QTO - On November 16, 2024, Lam Thuy village (Vinh Dinh commune) received a certificate of recognition for meeting the new rural model standards in 2023. This result is the convergence of the spirit of solidarity, high unity and the constant efforts and creativity of the cadres, party members and people of Lam Thuy village. Lam Thuy today has become a livable countryside, a creative point of strong breakthrough in building the homeland.

Houses have numbers, streets have names

Returning to Lam Thuy - a village with a rich history and cultural tradition, we recorded a completely new appearance. The vivid evidence is that the village roads and alleys now have street names, house numbers and specific signs to each residential area. Along with that, the roads are concreted, flowers and ornamental plants are planted and lighting systems are invested, contributing to clearly changing the appearance of the countryside. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Minh, at house number 19, Thuan Duc-Lam Thuy-Phuong Lang route (DH 50A) happily said: "Since the house has a number and the street has a name, people's search for houses and transactions have become much easier and more convenient."

Lam Thuy village has 18 hamlets, arranged into 11 residential areas. Since August 2023, the village has started installing signboards, naming streets, alleys and house numbers, considering this one of the key projects in building a model new rural area. With the determination of the cadres, the consensus and response of the people and material support from children far from home and businesses, up to now, 11 residential areas have completed this work. Lam Thuy's creative approach has been highly appreciated by superiors and replicated in many other localities.

Mr. Vo Cong Trong, Head of Lam Thuy village, said: “Determining the construction of a model new-style rural village as a key task, Lam Thuy village has focused on propaganda and mobilization work. We focus on reviewing and evaluating the current situation to consider and prioritize implementing easy criteria first, and difficult criteria later. The village also implements well the motto "People know, people discuss, people do, people inspect", focusing on promoting internal strength, exploiting all resources to build infrastructure. At the same time, many practical solutions are proposed, suitable to local realities and many creative ways to create high consensus among the people, from awareness to action".

In the past 5 years, Lam Thuy village has mobilized people to contribute counterpart funds to build more than 18.5km of rural roads, 3km of intra-field roads, 2km of gravel roads to sandy areas, built 2 flood shelters and community cultural activities, 1 waste collection point and many other works such as cultural and sports activities, rural road lighting, welcome gates...

The total investment cost for infrastructure construction is about 49.2 billion VND, of which people contributed nearly 5 billion VND and donated more than 3,000 square meters of land. The movement to improve the countryside, build garden plans, eliminate mixed gardens, and grow high- value seedlings has been effectively implemented. The entire population participates in sorting waste at the source, while organizing tree planting and building model flower streets, making the countryside green, clean, and beautiful.

Homeland flourishes, creating momentum for breakthrough

In the process of building a model new rural area, Lam Thuy village has achieved many great results. Notably, the economy is increasingly developing, and people's lives are increasingly improved. Lam Thuy Cooperative is recognized as an advanced cooperative at the provincial level. Production organization is 100% mechanized, from land preparation to harvesting, promoting product consumption linkage and producing high-quality rice varieties...

For many years, the village has not used toxic herbicides on fields and fertile land. Currently, the village has one industrial-scale pig farm and many family farms. The peanut and seaweed salt product has achieved 3-star OCOP and many other products, such as: chili powder, bean sprouts, lotus, nem, rice... are of high quality and are favored by the market. By the end of 2024, the average income per capita will reach 60 million VND, the multidimensional poverty rate will decrease to 3.05%.

“My family has invested more than 400 million VND to transform the mixed garden into a model garden in accordance with regulations and was recognized as a model garden of the new rural area in 2023. My family's model garden has been visited by many organizations and individuals inside and outside the province to learn from experience. In the coming time, I will continue to invest to improve the scale and quality, contributing to making Lam Thuy village an ideal, livable and proud countryside,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Thi.

As one of the localities formed quite early in Hai Lang land, Lam Thuy has many beautiful traditional cultures that are preserved and promoted, such as: Chess festival, boat racing festival, bean sprout making profession, famous culinary dish Canh Am Lam village... The cultural, artistic, physical education and sports movement of the village is always maintained and developed; institutions are invested in and built, meeting the needs of entertainment, training and sports competition for all classes of people. Over the past 3 years, Lam Thuy village has been recognized as a safe area in terms of security and order. The political system is clean and strong; the Party cell and mass organizations have completed their tasks excellently for many years, and have been commended and rewarded by superiors.

Lam Thuy cadres and people will continue to maintain and improve the achieved criteria to build a civilized, beautiful and rich homeland,” affirmed Lam Thuy village chief Vo Cong Trong.

The successful construction of a model new-style rural village has promoted the strong development of Lam Thuy village. The appearance of a prosperous, peaceful, livable rural area is present in every spacious house, on clean roads, next to colorful flower bushes along the roadside and in the sparkling eyes of joy of each resident.
