A woman had a close call when she got stuck between two giant rocks.
The unusual story happened recently in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Australia. While climbing a mountain, a woman accidentally dropped her iPhone into a deep crevice. Unfortunately, when trying to retrieve the phone, she slipped and fell into the gap between two large rocks.
What is worth mentioning is that the crevice was 3 meters deep and she fell head first. The crevice was so narrow that she could not turn around or escape by herself. In addition, there was no cell phone signal in the area, and her and her friends' attempts to call for help were all unsuccessful.
It took 7 hours for the girl to be rescued.
The victim was left hanging upside down for an hour before rescuers arrived. Considering this an “unprecedented” situation, the rescue team from the New South Wales (NSW) Ambulance Service had to be very careful in every step of the rescue.
Rescuers had to move 500kg of rocks to save the victim.
They built a sturdy wooden frame around the area where the girl was trapped, then moved rocks weighing more than 500kg to ensure the victim's safety. Peter Watts - a professional rescuer of NSW Ambulance shared: "In 10 years of rescue work, I have never encountered a case like this. The rescue was challenging but the result is really gratifying."
After the rocks were removed, it took the rescue team more than an hour to get the woman out through an extremely narrow S-curve. The entire rescue operation lasted more than 7 hours. Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries.
However, the “culprit” iPhone was still lying in the deep crevice. The story was widely shared on social media and received a “shower” of praise from the online community for the professionalism and efforts of the NSW rescue team.
