Attending the reception, on the Vietnamese side were representatives of the European - American Market Department, the Import-Export Department and the Trade Promotion Department; on the Armenian side were Mr. Suren Baghdasaryan, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Vietnam and representatives from the Armenian Embassy in Vietnam.
At the beginning of the meeting, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long sent his congratulations to Mr. Suren Baghdasaryan on the occasion of his new appointment and official start of his term as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Vietnam. The Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in particular always attach importance to the traditional friendship between the two countries, always remember and be grateful for Armenia's valuable support to Vietnam in the struggle for independence and national development.
On the Armenian side, Ambassador Suren Baghdasaryan congratulated Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long on his new position and emphasized that Armenia always considers Vietnam an important partner in the Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific regions. The Ambassador also expressed his hope and belief that the Deputy Minister and the Ambassador in particular, as well as the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Armenian Embassy in Vietnam in general, will closely coordinate to promote cooperation in the economic and trade fields to match the current good political and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the economic and trade cooperation situation between the two countries. Specifically, on the basis of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union (VN-EAEU FTA) of which Armenia is a member, the two sides agreed that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has developed quite positively in recent times, but is still modest compared to its potential. The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in areas where both sides are strong, such as cooperation in the fields of trade, automobile manufacturing industry, high-tech agriculture, information technology, etc. In addition, the two sides will closely coordinate with EAEU countries to continue to handle problems arising in the implementation of the VN-EAEU FTA to ensure the highest efficiency of the implementation of the Agreement.
Regarding the organization of the 2nd Session of the Vietnam-Armenia Intergovernmental Committee on Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation, the two sides agreed to closely coordinate to organize this Session in a practical and effective manner. On this occasion, Ambassador Suren Baghdasaryan, on behalf of the Armenian Ministry of Economy, sent an invitation to Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long to visit and attend the Session in Armenia at an appropriate time.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long thanked Ambassador Suren Baghdasaryan for his good feelings about the country and people of Vietnam and believed that in his position, the Ambassador would have an excellent term, contributing to the good relations between the two countries and promoting trade relations between the two countries.
During the 2018-2023 period, bilateral trade increased nearly 97 times from 3.45 million USD in 2018 to 342 million USD in 2023. Of which, exports from Vietnam to Armenia reached 341.8 million USD; imports from Armenia reached 270 thousand USD. |
