Prime Minister meets with Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States

According to the Vietnam News Agency Special Envoy, on the occasion of attending the High-level Week of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (USA), on the afternoon of September 22 local time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with members of the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States.

The Vietnam Innovation Network (under the National Innovation Center) was established by the Ministry of Planning and Investment with the goal of connecting the world's leading Vietnamese science and technology experts with practical domestic needs, in order to attract and effectively use intellectual resources to serve the country's socio -economic development.

According to Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN Dang Hoang Giang, the Vietnam Innovation Network in the United States was established thanks to the promotion right after Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working visit to the United States in May 2022.

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that when the National Innovation Center established the Vietnamese intellectual and talent network five years ago, it only gathered 100 technology talents.

To date, the network has grown to 2,000 people in 8 locations around the world, including 2 networks in the United States (on the East and West coasts). The network includes talent in technology, finance, law, management and other key areas.

According to Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, statistics from the World Bank (WB) show that so far only 12 countries have overcome the middle-income trap.

To do this, Vietnam must take advantage of opportunities from the 4th industrial revolution, restructure the economy, innovate the growth model, develop rapidly and sustainably, relying mainly on science and technology, Innovation, and at the same time promote cultural resources and human strength of Vietnam.

The Minister said that after the meeting on the same day, Mr. Cuong Do - a member of the network, former Global Strategy Director of Samsung - accepted to be a strategic advisor to the National Innovation Center in the fields of semiconductors and healthcare.

Also at the meeting, members of the network shared experiences, proposed ideas, programs and plans to expand the network, mobilize resources from the network more strongly, strengthen the relationship between the intellectual community in the United States and their homeland Vietnam, as well as make suggestions for socio-economic development policies, especially in the fields of high technology and emerging industries.

Listening to the opinions, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam is proud to have never had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as today. The Prime Minister emphasized the important significance of Vietnam and the United States declaring the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership after ups and downs and breakthroughs in bilateral relations, overcoming great difficulties and obstacles to put the past behind, look to the future, turn enemies into friends, and make the relationship between the two countries a model in the history of international relations in healing and building post-war relations.

The Prime Minister was impressed by the opinions expressed at the meeting. The opinions all reflected the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement. The Prime Minister said that in the statement establishing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the United States also affirmed its support for a "strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous" Vietnam.

Recalling the country's development goals by 2030 and 2045, the Prime Minister said that to achieve these goals, it requires the efforts, attempts, and contributions of each person in the spirit of inheriting and promoting the tradition of our ancestors of "turning nothing into something, turning difficult into easy, turning impossible into possible".

The Prime Minister made it clear that Vietnamese people, whether at home or abroad, have in common that they are descendants of Hong Lac, carrying Vietnamese hearts and Vietnamese blood, and no matter where they are, they always turn towards Vietnam and help the country.

The Prime Minister shared about the fundamental factors in protecting and developing the country, major orientations and outstanding achievements of Vietnam in economic and social development, cultural development, foreign affairs and integration.

The Prime Minister emphasized that we must always be in a state of Innovation and Creativity, because resources originate from thinking and awareness, motivation originates from innovation and creativity, and strength originates from people and businesses.

Appreciating the establishment of the Vietnam Innovation Network which has received much support, the Prime Minister said that in order for the network to grow continuously, it is important to "harmonize interests and share risks", bringing practical benefits to members and participants.

Innovation must be linked to practice and must bring about higher efficiency, which can be measured and weighed. Innovation is a global trend, so it is necessary to promote international solidarity and domestic solidarity to create strength.

The Prime Minister suggested that the network's Innovation activities should focus on promoting new areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, sharing economy, infrastructure (including hard and soft infrastructure, digital infrastructure), and education and training. Innovation is not only in socio-economic development but also in cultural development, including cultural industries.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party and State always support and facilitate Innovation activities; continue to perfect institutions, mechanisms and policies for Innovation; build an Innovation Fund, aiming to build an Innovation Ecosystem.

The Prime Minister hopes that members of the network will continue to unite, motivate and inspire Innovation for those around them and contribute to their homeland and country.
