This is the first visit by a Vietnamese Prime Minister to Kuwait in 16 years, in the context of the two countries looking towards activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in 2026.

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah presided over the welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to Kuwait.

At the Bayan Palace of the Kuwait Royal Family, showing the importance of the visit, the Kuwaiti Prime Minister went to the parking lot to welcome Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Pleased to meet each other, Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to walk on the red carpet to the position of honor. When the two Prime Ministers reached the position of honor before the national flags of the two countries, the national anthems of Vietnam and Kuwait were solemnly played. The welcoming ceremony ended with the two sides introducing to each other the participants of the welcoming ceremony on each side.
After nearly 50 years of establishment (January 10, 1976 - January 10, 2026), Vietnam - Kuwait relations have developed well. The two countries maintain high-level visits, contacts and bilateral cooperation mechanisms. Kuwait is currently Vietnam's largest trade and investment partner among the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Two-way trade turnover in 2024 will reach 7.3 billion USD.
Kuwait's largest investment project in Vietnam is the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex with a total investment capital of 9 billion USD. Currently, the two countries have a number of cooperation agreements connecting local cooperation such as Ho Chi Minh City and Ahmadi province, Thanh Hoa province and Al Farwaniyh province.
During his visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will hold talks and meetings with the King, Prime Minister, and Crown Prince of Kuwait; visit economic establishments, work with major Kuwaiti economic groups, and deliver policy speeches at the Kuwait Diplomatic Academy.

Through these activities, the two sides will exchange, agree on directions, measures and determine a framework for deeper cooperation in the coming time; bringing bilateral relations to a new level. In particular, along with strengthening political trust, the two sides will promote the development of potential fields such as oil and gas, energy, ensuring food security, products according to Islamic standards. Halal, opening direct flights, promoting trade cooperation, investment, tourism, business connection, people-to-people exchange...
The two countries will exploit the advantages so that Vietnam can become a gateway for Kuwait to expand its market to Southeast Asia and neighboring countries, while Kuwait helps Vietnam access the Middle East and neighboring markets. The two sides also show mutual support in international forums and multilateral mechanisms, contributing to stability, peace, cooperation, and prosperous development for both countries, the two regions and the world.
