On the evening of May 28, Man United suffered a 0-1 defeat to the ASEAN All Stars team in a friendly match at Bukit Jalil Stadium (Malaysia).
After the match, despite being a "red devil" fan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim did not hesitate to make humorous comments, "praying" that Man United will not have to experience relegation next season.
The day before the match, he had a friendly meeting with the coaching staff of both teams and proudly wore the jacket given to him by the English club.
And after the final whistle blew with a 1-0 victory for the Southeast Asian stars, Prime Minister Anwar did not miss the opportunity to "rub salt" into the pain of his favorite team.
On his personal social networking page, he humorously wrote: "Oh no, Man United lost another title. Next season will be a headache. Hopefully they won't be relegated and play in the Championship (English first division). Congratulations to the Southeast Asian Stars. You guys are amazing."
Prime Minister Anwar's humorous message was all the more meaningful when viewed against the sad backdrop of Man United. Just a week earlier, the "red devils" had sadly watched Tottenham lift the Europa League trophy after a 0-1 defeat.
Last season was a nightmare for the Old Trafford team, finishing 15th in the Premier League (a record low). The team went empty-handed and will not be in the European Cup next season, their worst performance in more than half a century.
Coach Ruben Amorim's team will continue to enter the friendly match with Hong Kong on May 30. These two friendly matches in Asia are expected to help Man United earn about 10 million euros.
