Before entering the quarter-finals on the afternoon of May 23, Vietnam's number one tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh made her mark by winning two consecutive victories against players Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (former world champion from India) in round 1 and Line Christophersen (world No. 36 from Denmark) in round 2.
However, her opponent in the quarter-finals is Wang Zhi Yi, the number one Chinese tennis player ranked 2nd in the world, and the two have never met each other on the international arena.

Entering set 1, Thuy Linh entered the match with determination when Wang Zhi Yi was leading 5-1 but still persistently shortened the score to 5-4 and tied 8-8. However, her superior level and experience helped the Chinese player accelerate strongly with a series of consecutive points, leading 14-8 without giving Linh a chance to respond.
The difference in skill level gradually became clear when Wang Zhi Yi continued to maintain an overwhelming attacking style of play and easily won with a score of 21-11.
In the second set, Thuy Linh decided to play aggressively, taking the lead 5-3 thanks to sharp counterattacks and precise serve. However, Wang Zhi Yi quickly adjusted his play, scoring 4 consecutive points to regain the lead 7-5.
From that point on, the Chinese player was in complete control of the match. She continued to increase the score gap thanks to her solid shots and good reading of the situation. Thuy Linh tried her best but could not catch up, and Wang Zhi Yi closed the set with a 21-15 victory, thereby winning 2-0 after two overwhelming sets.
The match between Thuy Linh and Wang Zhi Yi ended quickly after more than half an hour and although it could not create any surprise, it helped Vietnam's number one tennis player accumulate 5,040 bonus points and 2,850 USD. Meanwhile, this victory helped Wang Zhi Yi advance to the semi-finals to meet Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand) tomorrow (May 24).
