According to the Director of K Hospital, cancer is more special than other diseases because of its recurrence, metastasis, and the heavy psychological burden on patients and their families. Nursing in the cancer sector plays a very important role.

Accordingly, nursing is not only about performing technical procedures, but also about building a close relationship with the patient, listening, providing emotional support, pain relief, managing side effects, and facilitating the patient's recovery process.

"Oncology nurses not only need to carry out medical orders accurately, but also need to be sensitive, emotional, and have extensive professional knowledge, becoming a spiritual support for patients and their families. They are silent heroes, working in dangerous, toxic environments but have not been properly evaluated," said Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang.

In its message on International Nurses Day 2025, the International Council of Nurses emphasized that investing in the nursing profession not only benefits the profession itself but also contributes to solving global health challenges and improving public health.

According to Professor Quang, to achieve this, we need to respect and treat nurses appropriately. In addition, we need to protect nurses, because they have to work in dangerous and toxic conditions.

At the same time, it is necessary to invest in nursing work from improving professional policies, training, investing in equipment serving nursing activities and recognizing and properly evaluating the value and position of the nursing profession.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Duong Huy Luong, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) also highlighted the role of the nursing team in taking care of patients' health.

"The team of oncology nurses has made very important and effective contributions in areas such as: policy development, care management organization, training, care practice and scientific research," said Dr. Luong.

Therefore, hospitals need to continue to pay attention, invest, recognize and honor the role of nurses, focus on raising awareness of the importance of nursing work, developing nursing human resources, promoting the development of technology and equipment to improve the quality of comprehensive patient care in medical examination and treatment facilities...

The 2nd National Cancer Nursing Conference focused on improving the quality of cancer patient care. The conference was attended by nearly 1,000 domestic cancer nursing experts and scientists and international experts from Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Many contents on fields such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, palliative care, cancer patient management to improve the quality of patient care... were updated and shared at the conference.
