Promoting the connection of the two expressways Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai and Phnom Penh - Ba Vet

The Ministry of Transport said it will establish a working group to promote the implementation of connecting Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway with Cambodia's Phnom Penh - Ba Vet expressway.

In the immediate future, relevant units will review and supplement the planning of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway into the dossier adjusting the Road Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, as a basis for implementing procedures to connect with the Phnom Penh - Ba Vet expressway.

At the same time, the units developed plans and working content of the interdisciplinary working group to promote the connection of these two important expressways under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

The future connection point of the two expressways as well as plans to build new border works will depend on the Government-level agreement between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is the competent authority to implement the investment project to build the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway. The project is expected to start construction in May 2025 and be completed and opened to traffic in December 2027.

The route connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway with the Phnom Penh - Ba Vet expressway is outside the scope of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway project and is not included in the related planning of Tay Ninh province.

Traffic and trade connection between Vietnam and Cambodia at the Moc Bai - Ba Vet border gate pair is through National Highway 22 (Vietnam side) and National Highway 1 (Cambodia side).
