Promoting the development of the cooperative sector

On the afternoon of July 29, in Hanoi, ICA-AP coordinated with the ICA-AP Women's Committee and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance to organize the Asia -Pacific Regional Leadership Conference of the International Cooperative Alliance to promote global development as well as promote the development of the cooperative sector.

In her opening speech, Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van, President of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, highly appreciated the activities of the ICA-AP Board of Directors in recent times, which have had meaningful initiatives and activities to connect ICA-AP member countries and create forums dedicated to female cooperative leaders in the region to meet, exchange and share good experiences in economic construction and development.

According to Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van, this regional leadership meeting is very important as the content that the leaders focused on was to unify and make decisions on issues including reports on the activities of the Committees, personnel participating in the Leadership Board, especially the ICA-AP Strategic Plan for the period 2025-2030.

“In the context that the issue of cooperative development is a matter of concern on the international agenda and 2025 is chosen as the International Year of Cooperatives, I hope and believe that the strategic plan with many new contents will be approved and implemented as soon as possible,” Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van emphasized.

Furthermore, the Board of Directors meeting together with the Asia- Pacific Women Cooperative Leaders Summit took place in July when the whole world celebrated the International Cooperative Day 2024 and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance coordinated to organize these very meaningful events.

Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van affirmed that the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance will always accompany and be a responsible member of ICA-AP, together with member countries, fully and actively participate in ICA-AP's activities in the future to improve the operational efficiency as well as the position of ICA-AP.

At the same time, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance will promote experience sharing and mutually beneficial cooperation among cooperatives of countries, contributing to the development of the cooperative movement in the region and globally.

In particular, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance pledges to make every effort to successfully organize the Asia-Pacific Women Cooperative Leaders Summit taking place in the next two days.

The representative of the Organizing Committee said that the ICA-AP Leadership Conference is held twice a year to report on the situation of member organizations, activities of specialized committees and update on ongoing ICA-AP activities, focusing on implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Specifically, at this conference, delegates will discuss issues such as activity reports of the Women's Committee, Youth Committee; ICA-AP activity reports, financial reports, membership and membership fee reports; Operational plan in the ICA-EU FPA2 cooperation project and Membership needs assessment.

The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance has been a member of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) since 1988 and has actively participated in ICA activities in the Asia-Pacific region (ICA-AP) in supporting the development of the collective economic sector and cooperatives in Vietnam, promoting experience sharing and mutually beneficial cooperation between the cooperative sectors of countries.

Through this event, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance wishes to contribute to promoting to international friends the country and people of Vietnam in general, the collective economic sector, cooperatives and the role and responsibility of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance as an active member in the Asia-Pacific region in particular./.
