BHG - Ha Giang province has a strategic position with a border of over 277 km bordering the two provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi of China, with Thanh Thuy International Border Gate, two pairs of bilateral border gates Xin Man (Vietnam) - Do Long (China) and Sam Pun (Vietnam) - Dien Bong (China), along with sub-border gates and many adjacent open markets. In recent years, Agribank Ha Giang Branch has made many strong strides in border payment activities, becoming a leading bank in providing financial services in border payment activities.
2024 marks a successful year for Agribank Ha Giang Branch in cross-border payment activities when the turnover reached 992 billion VND, a sharp increase compared to previous years. In particular, in the first 4 months of 2025, the turnover reached 121 billion VND, although it decreased compared to the same period last year (368 billion VND/first 4 months of 2024) due to seasonal factors and temporary border control policies from China. However, in the long term, the trend still shows that TTBG activities at Agribank Ha Giang Branch have the potential for sustainable growth. Currently, the cross-border payment activities of Agribank Ha Giang Branch have accounted for 86% of the market share compared to the total market share of other credit institutions in the area, with the trust and companionship of more than 40 enterprises and 30 business households inside and outside the province.

Despite achieving many positive results in border trade activities, Agribank Ha Giang Branch and Chinese financial institutions still face some difficulties in border trade activities as follows: China's border trade policy changes frequently, so Chinese authorities regularly inspect and impose many strict requirements. Border gates for declaration and customs clearance of small-scale goods are limited. Because VND/CNY (Vietnamese Dong/Chinese Yuan) is not a strong currency pair, the State Bank does not announce daily exchange rates, but the determination of transaction exchange rates is only carried out at commercial banks in border provinces, so it is greatly affected by the free market. There is always competition on exchange rates between banks and traders in buying and selling foreign currency CNY.
With a key role in TTBG, Agribank Ha Giang Branch always promotes the coverage of a wide payment network to border communes, a team of staff with deep knowledge of the area, and long-term commitment to the community, Agribank Ha Giang Branch not only plays the role of a simple commercial bank but also a strategic financial infrastructure serving the economic development of border areas.
In the coming time, Agribank Ha Giang Branch aims to continue expanding international cooperation, towards a cross-border electronic payment model. Applying digital technology, supporting residents and businesses to trade more conveniently. Cooperating with Chinese financial institutions to remove payment obstacles. Continuing sustainable development, accompanying businesses and people to promote import and export payment activities in the province.
In the context of many challenges from border trade policies and competition in the foreign exchange market, Agribank Ha Giang Branch still affirms its leading role in border payment activities, making an important contribution to the economic development of the border gate area. With a solid foundation of cooperation with strategic partners in China, a service network covering the border area and the orientation of developing cross-border digital payments, Agribank Ha Giang Branch gradually affirms its role as a financial pillar of the northernmost region of the country, actively contributing to promoting foreign economic relations and improving the efficiency of import and export payments.
