Promote implementation of trade agreements with the United States

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a working session with large corporations and groups on promoting the implementation of trade agreements with the United States.

Attending the working session with Minister Nguyen Hong Dien were large corporations, groups, and enterprises of Vietnam such as: Vietnam Energy - Industry Group (PVN), Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex), Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas), Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV), Vietnam Chemical Group, Vietnam Airlines Corporation ( Vietnam Airlines ), Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company, Truong Hai Industrial Group (THACO Industry), Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel), Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT)... In recent years, these corporations have imported a large number of products such as aircraft, machinery, equipment, turbines for gas-fired power plants, power transmission systems, GPU chips, raw materials... from the United States, worth up to billions of dollars.

At the meeting, representatives of the corporations reported on the implementation of the signed purchasing agreements in 2025; assessed and forecasted the demand for imports, procurement of equipment, goods, services, raw materials and fuels in which the United States has strengths this year and the following years. The corporations said that from now until June 2025, they will increase meetings and work with US partners to promote contracts to realize the signed agreements and memorandums of understanding.

After listening to the opinions of business representatives, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that Vietnam currently has a need to purchase goods, equipment and services from the United States in large quantities, with high and stable value. These are all products that the United States has strengths in and that Vietnam has a need for. However, trade between the two countries has not really matched their potential. The Minister said that both sides need to urgently review and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, creating favorable conditions for businesses to buy and sell essential products, supplementing each other's demand for goods.

At the same time, the Minister suggested that in the coming time, businesses need to be more active to realize this great potential. This is a practical action to help promote economic , trade and investment cooperation between the two countries in a substantive manner, increasingly in-depth and effective; at the same time, contributing towards a harmonious and sustainable trade balance.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and Mr. Marc E. Knapper, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Vietnam

On the same morning, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a meeting with Mr. Marc E. Knapper, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Vietnam to promote the negotiation process to handle bilateral economic and trade issues between Vietnam and the United States in the current period.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed the importance of cooperation between the two countries, and proposed that the United States promote the comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development, for the development of each country and stability in the region, promote Vietnam - US trade in a harmonious, sustainable and long-term direction; ensure that it does not violate international commitments to which Vietnam is a member, does not affect relations with other partners; and at the same time, is consistent with the guiding directions agreed upon by the two countries' senior leaders.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said that the complementary nature of the Vietnamese and US economies is an important feature that helps economic and trade cooperation between the two countries develop more and more strongly. In the coming time, both sides need to support businesses to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, create favorable conditions for businesses in cooperation projects, as well as the purchase and sale of essential products, supplementing each other's demand for goods, considering this a practical action to help promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries in a substantive manner, increasingly in-depth and effective; at the same time, contributing towards a harmonious and sustainable trade balance.

For his part, Ambassador Marc E. Knapper said he appreciated Vietnam's proactive, goodwill, and constructive moves, and explained that the new US trade policy was established with the aim of further promoting trade and investment, protecting the economic security, national security, and US workers; not to harm partner countries. Although there are many challenges ahead, the Ambassador believes that with high goodwill, the negotiation process between the two countries will achieve positive results, bringing benefits to the people and business community.
