Yen Lap: Enhancing women's status through startup support activities

The effective implementation of the Project "Supporting Women to Start a Business" in Yen Lap District, Phu Tho Province is an opportunity to help women members at the grassroots level start a business. Thereby increasing access to support programs and policies, contributing to improving material and spiritual life, gradually enhancing the position of women in the family and in society, actively contributing to the implementation of the goals of economic development, poverty reduction, and new rural construction of the district.

Specifically:

- 100% of specialized Union officials at all levels and officials of departments, offices and sectors participating in the implementation of the Project have raised awareness and methods to support women in starting and developing businesses; 85% of female members have been educated and raised awareness about employment and starting a business (exceeding the Project's target).

- Coordinated recruitment and training for 18 vocational classes (518 students) in cultivation and animal husbandry, coordinated organization of 4 knowledge training classes for 382 female workers.

- Guide and support women members to develop 30 startup ideas (exceeding the plan), of which 1 idea won first prize in the contest "Vietnamese women confidently do business", awarded 25 million VND by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, 1 idea passed the preliminary round of the contest "Women start-ups to enhance OCOP product brands" organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union; 4 startup ideas and products were awarded by the Phu Tho Provincial Women's Union.

- Newly established 41 women's groups/teams for economic development (exceeding the Project's target by 7%); 04 cooperatives managed by women. Maintained the operation of 04 cooperatives and 1 cooperative group (exceeding the Project's target by 03 cooperative groups).

Through propaganda activities, female cadres and members will improve their understanding of the Party and State's policies and laws related to career development and entrepreneurship in order to change awareness, arouse the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of women in the new situation. The member agencies of the Steering Committee integrate propaganda and thoroughly implement Project 939 with the functions and tasks of each agency and unit. Deploy propaganda to cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers and members about the content of the Project, focusing mainly on activities to support women in starting and developing businesses.

The representative of the Women's Union of Yen Lap district said that the Union has supported the improvement of business capacity and start-ups for women with feasible business ideas: Coordinated training and improved knowledge of start-ups for 458 members and women; coordinated the organization of 13 vocational training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry for 393 women members; guided members and women to develop 30 start-up and business ideas. The Women's Union of the district supported 55 million VND to realize the ideas; the District Bank for Social Policies coordinated to organize loan disbursement to support, maintain and expand employment for 05 women's groups/teams associated with garment processing in Ngoc Dong commune, with a total amount of 500 million VND (100 million VND/group) to help women have stable jobs in the locality.

Support the development of the model "Supporting women to start a business", developing cooperatives and cooperative groups to develop business: Continue to guide the implementation of the model "Supporting women to start a business". Communes and towns review, select and establish 41 new women's groups/teams to develop the economy, 643 members (cumulatively 91 groups/teams with 1,398 members); Organize the launch of the Club "Women traders behave beautifully, say no to unsafe food" in Yen Lap town; Direct communes and towns to build 39 economic development models in 17/17 communes and towns (221 members) with a total capital of 7,165 million VND (of which 4,068 million VND is self-owned capital).
