Golden flower tea is known as "green gold", famous for its economic value and outstanding health benefits. This is a valuable medicinal plant, from leaves, buds to flowers, all have their own uses for health. Although also grown in some other localities such as Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc ... Ba Che golden flower tea still has its own unique features. The most noticeable sign is the purple sepals, compared to the green color commonly seen in other regions. Thanks to the mountainous terrain, rich vegetation, special soil and sustainable farming methods, Ba Che people have created quintessential tea buds rich in identity. Becoming one of the key crops in the strategy to develop Ba Che into the economic center of forestry and medicinal herbs of the province, golden flower tea has helped many ethnic minorities in Ba Che change their lives. The OCOP brand Ba Che golden flower tea is loved and trusted by many domestic consumers.
The person who made great contributions to the journey of building the Ba Che Golden Camellia brand is Mr. Ninh Van Trang, Director of Dap Thanh Forestry Trading Joint Stock Company. In early 2023, with the support of 300 million VND from the national industrial promotion program, he boldly invested in a freeze-drying machine worth 950 million VND. Thanks to that, labor costs were optimized, increasing the drying productivity of flowers and leaves of the golden camellia tree. The final product has a higher aesthetic value and is well-received by consumers. This is also what makes Mr. Ninh Van Trang more confident when completing the dossier to send to the National OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council to consider the 5-star OCOP product classification for Ba Che Golden Camellia.
Mr. Ninh Van Trang, Director of Dap Thanh Forestry Products Trading Joint Stock Company, introduced Ba Che golden flower tea products at the provincial OCOP fair.
Currently, grade 1 dried yellow camellia flowers cost from 1.2 million VND/100 grams; grade 2 is 700,000 VND/100 grams. Grade 1 fresh camellia flowers cost from 600,000 VND/kg. Because of its high economic value, this type of tea also possesses its own characteristics that require meticulousness in harvesting, preserving, and processing. Growing more than 2.5 hectares of tea, of which about 2/3 of the garden area is 7-10 years old, Ms. Phong Thi Dan (Thanh Son commune, Ba Che district) said: To get quality grade 1 camellia flowers, you have to pick them from 6am. If it is the main season, you have to pick all night. The harvest season for yellow camellia flowers starts from December and lasts until March of the following year. Since planting this type of plant, our people have had a significant additional source of income.
The fact that Ba Che Golden Flower Tea is ranked as a 5-star OCOP product at the national level is the result of many years of efforts by local authorities, companies and cooperatives to increase commercial value and improve production processes according to international standards. To achieve this certification, products must meet many strict criteria, from clean raw materials, safe processing procedures, standard packaging and design to economic efficiency and export potential.
According to Mr. Khieu Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of Ba Che District People's Committee, taking advantage of suitable soil conditions, Ba Che District has continuously expanded the area of organic yellow flower tea cultivation to about 160 hectares, mainly in Don Dac, Dap Thanh, Thanh Lam, Thanh Son, Nam Son and Luong Mong communes. Up to now, Ba Che has implemented about 10 models of production and consumption linkage and has been granted a tea growing area code. The local government has proactively built a development strategy and supported people to improve product quality. In addition, Ba Che has also promoted the yellow flower tea brand in the media, fairs, e-commerce platforms and through the annual yellow flower tea festival.
Achieving the national 5-star OCOP certification, Ba Che Golden Flower Tea has the opportunity to expand its market, especially exporting to countries with a tradition of favoring high-quality medicinal tea products such as Japan, Korea, China and Europe. To take advantage of this valuable opportunity, cooperatives and businesses need to promote the application of technology in processing and improve product quality.

Mr. Ninh Van Trang, Director of Dap Thanh Forestry Trading Joint Stock Company, said: Right after being recognized as a 5-star national brand, we changed the product packaging and kept the price unchanged. Recently, some more units have contacted us to get products for domestic consumption. I have also proactively learned from export experiences of companies and cooperatives in and outside the province that have similar products of tea and medicinal herbs. Hopefully, in the near future, we will be able to bring our products to international consumers. In the immediate future, this year, we will actively participate in promotional activities such as OCOP fairs in localities, e-commerce platforms; Ba Che Golden Flower Tea Festival... We are well aware that we must promote consumption and diversify products to encourage more people to participate in growing this plant, bringing economic efficiency to the locality.
