CHINA - A video recently went viral on social media showing two tourists falling into a valley in Wenzhou, leading many to believe it was a serious accident and criticize the scenic area's management board.
According to The Paper, the video was filmed at Zhejiang Longwantan National Forest Park in Yongjia, Wenzhou, Zhejiang (China). However, the person who posted it edited it, causing many people to misunderstand that this was an accident.
Local media immediately contacted the scenic area management board to verify the incident. On February 8, the Wenzhou Information Bureau website officially published an article denying the cable car accident at the site.
"The management board of the scenic area confirmed that the entire cable car system here is operating normally and there have been no fatal accidents in recent days," the press release stated.
Many netizens later spoke up to clarify that the above video actually recorded the experience of tourists in the Devil's Swing adventure project, which was deployed at this scenic area since May 2020.
This is the first double-traction cable car adventure project in China with a total investment of about 230,000 USD (5.8 billion VND).
The cable car is 520m long and the swing is 300m above the lowest point of the valley. Visitors will be free-falling 150m at a measured speed of about 120 km/h.
Devil's Swing is especially popular with adventurous foreign tourists. Many people say this game is even more exciting than bungee jumping.
