On the morning of December 10, the Hanoi People's Council passed a Resolution regulating the level of support for teachers, students, and trainees who achieve high results in domestic and international competitions. Accordingly, a reward of 300 million VND will be given to students who win Gold Medals/First Prizes internationally, while disabled students and ethnic minority students will receive a reward of 1.5 to 2 times higher.
According to the Resolution, the level of support for teachers, students and trainees of Hanoi city who achieve high achievements in city, national and international competitions and exams, students who win Gold Medals/First Prizes in International Cultural Olympiads will be awarded 300 million VND. Silver, Bronze and Encouragement prizes will receive 200, 150 and 100 million VND respectively.
The rewards for students who win regional and international science and technology prizes are the same, from 50 to 200 million VND. At the national and city levels, the rewards are from 10 to 50 million VND, with the city level only awarding the first prize.
In case the winning student is disabled or an ethnic minority, the bonus will increase by 1.5-2 times. Teachers who directly train and develop the student will receive a bonus of 70% of the student's bonus.
This bonus has increased by 50 million compared to the proposal of Hanoi People's Committee in July.
The lowest expected reward is 10 million VND, applied to secondary school students who win first prize in city-level competitions.
The rewards for excellent students approved by the Hanoi City People's Council:

A notable point in the Resolution is that the People's Council has abandoned the plan to award 20-50 million VND to students participating in the final round of Road to Olympia. The reason is that the People's Council's Culture and Social Committee believes that this is a television program, not part of the system of excellent student competitions at all levels. In addition, Olympia students have received awards and scholarships from sponsors.
Pursuant to Decree No. 110/2020/ND-CP of the Government : Regulations on reward regime for students, students, and trainees who win prizes in national and international competitions, students who win gold medals at international Olympics are awarded 55 million VND, silver medals are 35 million VND, bronze medals are 25 million VND, and encouragement is 10 million VND.
Students who win first prize in the national excellent student contest will be awarded 4 million VND, second prize 2 million VND, third prize 1 million VND.
In addition, localities have their own policies to reward students with high achievements as well as principals and teachers who train the team.
Currently, Quang Ninh has the highest reward in the country, 700 million VND for students who won gold medals at the International Olympic Games; followed by Hai Phong and Bac Ninh with a reward of 500 million VND; Vinh Phuc with a reward of 400 million VND. With the increase in the reward to 300 million VND, Hanoi's reward is equal to Hai Duong and Thua Thien Hue, entering the top 5 in the country in terms of reward for excellent students.
Hanoi is the locality with the largest education network in the country with more than 2,900 schools, 29 vocational education and continuing education centers with nearly 2.3 million students and nearly 130,000 teachers.
