Shanghai grapples with impact of Typhoon Bebinca

Although the impact of the strongest typhoon to hit Shanghai since 1949 is still lingering, the center of Bebinca has left Shanghai. No deaths have been reported in Shanghai as of late Monday.

However, residents posted videos showing strong winds and heavy rain, as well as blown-down fences, uprooted trees and power outages in some communities. As of Monday morning, more than 414,000 people had been evacuated across Shanghai and 811 boats had been evacuated, according to the Shanghai Flood Control Bureau.

As of Monday afternoon, the Shanghai Fire and Rescue Department had received more than 8,420 emergency calls to respond to obvious risks such as fallen trees and other obstacles, according to Shanghai Youth Daily.

Flights at Shanghai's two airports resumed on Monday afternoon after the eye of Typhoon Bebinca moved away from the city, according to the Shanghai Airport Group.

As of 6 p.m. Monday, the Shanghai Meteorological Administration lifted the typhoon warning as Bebinca left Shanghai and entered Jiangsu province, where 46,300 people had been evacuated and more than 20,000 boats had taken shelter from the storm, according to the province's flood control and drought relief agency.
