Sir Jim Ratcliffe is making sweeping changes at Manchester United. |
According to The Athletic , Head of Sports Science Richard Hawkins and Director of Football Operations David Harrison are on Sir Jim Ratcliffe's upcoming sacking list.
This news surprised many people, because both Hawkins and Harrison were two important figures in the management of Manchester United in recent times. Both of these senior members could not escape the new personnel cuts from the Manchester United leadership.
Ratcliffe is set to axe a further 200 jobs at Old Trafford, on top of the 250 he axed less than a year ago. The massive cuts will see Manchester United's workforce shrink by a third.
Billionaire Ratcliffe, who is worth more than £12bn, said the money saved from the redundancies would be invested in strengthening the club's squad.
In an interview with Sky Sports in March, he explained: “At the end of the day, when you run a club the size of Manchester United with a turnover of around £650m a year, you spend some of that on the running of the club and some on the squad.
“Where do you want to spend your money? On running the club or on the squad? Because if you invest in the squad, you will get better results. And at the end of the day, what is Manchester United for if not to win titles? What we want to do is invest in the best players in the world if we can,” the British billionaire affirmed.
