The project to accelerate the digital transformation in Ukraine will receive a contribution of 15 million Swiss francs this year, according to the results of the recent meeting of the Swiss Federal Council. This will allow Ukrainian citizens, refugees and businesses to access public services and express their opinions in the context of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Since Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine, millions of people have been displaced within Ukraine or to third countries. Infrastructure and housing have been destroyed on a large scale, while many businesses have been forced to relocate.
The attacks made it more difficult for citizens to access public services and exercise their political rights. However, thanks to Ukraine’s prior investment in digital transformation, public administrations were able to adapt quickly to new challenges and needs and continue to operate.
At the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2022 (URC2022) in Lugano, Swiss Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis stressed that digital transformation is a key element for Ukraine's recovery, and therefore proposed an increase of support by 15 million Swiss francs.
