Currently, athletes from cycling clubs and cycling enthusiasts are actively training to participate in the 2024 Phan Thiet City Open Cycling Race, which will take place on the morning of April 14th at Vo Van Kiet Park.
Every day at 5 AM, the athletes gather at the Lotte Mart Phan Thiet roundabout to check their bicycles and equipment. Each day, the racers practice on the Hung Vuong – Nguyen Thong – Vo Nguyen Giap route. This is one of the routes that will be used in the official competition, so the athletes are very actively practicing to familiarize themselves with the terrain.
Cyclist Vo Thi Minh Huong shared that, despite being a woman, she was still enthusiastic about participating, primarily to fulfill her passion for cycling and to improve her health. She also said these events help promote sports development and attract tourists to Phan Thiet. Meanwhile, cyclist Vo Trung Nam stated that, as an amateur cyclist, participating in competitions like this provides an opportunity to interact, learn from each other, and improve his professional skills and techniques in competition.
This year's competition includes both individual and team events. For men, the 50km race is divided into two age groups: 18-40 years old and 41-60 years old. For women aged 18-50, the 25km race is also available. The women's race starts at Vo Van Kiet Park and follows routes through the center of Phan Thiet City. For men, the race officially starts on Hung Vuong Street (near the Lotte Mart roundabout) and proceeds along streets such as Nguyen Thong, Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Vo Nguyen Giap, etc., finishing back at Vo Van Kiet Park.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Long, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City, said that the routes included in the competition all pass through famous tourist destinations with very beautiful scenery. This year, many units from outside Phan Thiet have registered to participate, and the preparations are basically complete; hopefully, the race will attract a large number of locals and tourists to watch.
According to the organizers, the tournament aims to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the liberation of Phan Thiet - Binh Thuan (April 19, 1975 - April 19, 2024) and the 49th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024). In addition, the tournament promotes the movement of "All citizens practicing physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh," encouraging regular physical exercise and sports among all segments of the population.
