Young Thai turtle doves cost from 300,000 to 1 million VND/pair, depending on the color of the plumage: apricot, pink or white. After deducting expenses, Mr. Khoi, a farmer in Quy Son commune, Luc Ngan district ( Bac Giang province) earns a profit of more than 10 million VND/month. Thanks to his eagerness to learn and hard work, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Khoi (born in 1990), Thuong Vu village, Quy Son commune, Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) has earned hundreds of millions of dong each year from raising turtledoves.
During the lychee harvest season of 2016, Mr. Khoi caught two pairs of young turtledoves and raised them.
Through participating in bird groups and researching on the Internet, he realized that the demand for raising pet turtle doves was growing strongly, so he bred them.
Mr. Khoi shared that turtledoves are easy to raise. The bird cage is also quite simple, just using iron mesh to create small compartments.
Each compartment holds a pair, inside is a nest made of straw, rice husks or plant fiber for the birds to breed. The bird cage is located outside the orchard, creating a landscape close to nature.
Doves have good resistance and rarely get sick; their food is grains such as rice, corn, sesame, green beans, etc.
After the process of breeding the flock, in 2019 he expanded the scale of the dove cage. Up to now, he has more than 80 pairs of parent doves and 30 pairs of Thai doves.
To effectively raise turtledoves, he bought 200 more pairs of Japanese turtledoves to incubate eggs and raise native turtledoves.
After about 10 days of hatching, the baby birds will be separated from their mother and cared for separately. This will help the baby birds become more tame.
Mr. Khoi, a successful dove farmer in Quy Son commune, Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province, feeds young doves.
Currently, turtledoves, 20-25 days after hatching, cost about 350,000 VND/pair. Adult birds cost from 500,000 to 700,000 VND/pair.
Young Thai turtledoves cost from 300,000 to 1 million VND/pair, depending on the color of their plumage: apricot, pink or white. After deducting expenses, Mr. Khoi's family earns a profit of more than 10 million VND/month.
In addition, he also has extra income from selling beautiful, singing birds for 5-7 million VND/bird.
According to Mr. Khoi, the most difficult part of raising doves for breeding is when they pair up. You have to be observant for the pairing to be successful.
Usually around 7 months old doves start laying eggs, if well cared for they reproduce all year round.
Good news spread far and wide, many people saw that Mr. Khoi's dove farming model was highly effective and came to buy the breed and learn from his experience.
Now, he has become a supplier of breeding birds for dove enthusiasts in many provinces and cities across the country.
