On the evening of April 4, in the capital Phnom Penh, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia held a friendly meeting with the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) on the occasion of the traditional New Year Choul Chnam Thmey 2025 and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
Attending the program were Vice President, Head of the Standing Committee of the CPP Standing Committee Samdech Say Chhum; Vice President of the CPP, President of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Samdech Men Sam An; President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Khuon Sudary; and members of the Standing Committee and members of the Central Executive Committee of the CPP.
At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu expressed his joy at welcoming the Cambodian New Year, a fine traditional custom that is preserved and conserved with strong national identity.
The Ambassador congratulated the achievements that the country and people of Cambodia have made in recent times, and expressed his wish that the Cambodian people will continue to enjoy peaceful and happy Choul Chnam Thmey under the leadership of the CPP.
The Ambassador said that sharing the joy with the Cambodian people, this month, the country and people of Vietnam are also welcoming an important historical event, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), a glorious milestone in Vietnam's history, a premise for Vietnam to unify and firmly step on the path of development.
50 years have passed since that historic victory, Vietnam is now preparing to enter a new era, an era of growth, development, wealth, civilization and prosperity.
Emphasizing that the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South is also an opportunity for Vietnam to express gratitude for the support of international friends, including the brotherly Cambodian people, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu stated: "The great support, assistance and sacrifice of the Cambodian people for the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country is a testament to the friendship and solidarity in fighting between Vietnam and Cambodia, and is a beautiful legacy and symbol of the strong relationship between the two countries."
Speaking at the event, on behalf of the CPP Standing Committee, Vice President and Head of the CPP Standing Committee Say Chhum highly appreciated Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu and the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy for organizing a friendly meeting to welcome the Cambodian New Year, as well as to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam.
In the atmosphere of friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia, Mr. Say Chhum affirmed that the relationship between the two countries under the motto "Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation" has been and is being strengthened and promoted through regular delegation exchanges of leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and all levels; highly appreciated the success of the high-level meeting of the two Parties of Cambodia and Vietnam as well as the high-level meeting of the three Parties of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam from February 21-22 in Ho Chi Minh City; emphasized that the CPP always gives the highest priority to preserving the tradition of friendship and mutual assistance between the two Parties and the two countries of Vietnam and Cambodia and is always grateful for the assistance of Vietnam, especially the valuable assistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who participated in the fight and sacrificed their lives in the cause of liberating Cambodia from the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
Mr. Say Chhum affirmed that the CPP under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the Royal Government under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet have achieved many important results for the national destiny, bringing Cambodia to peace and political stability; ensuring independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, developing socio-economy, prosperous people's lives, and enhancing Cambodia's prestige and position in the region and the international arena.
The CPP leaders expressed their joy and confidence that under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam with Mr. To Lam as General Secretary, Vietnam will achieve the goal of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045, as well as enhance its position in the region and in the international arena.
On the same afternoon, CPP Vice President Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng met and congratulated the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy, and sent best wishes to the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.
