During the night of November 6 to November 7, in the harsh weather conditions of heavy rain and strong winds due to the impact of storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi), the Gia Lai Provincial Police force and border guards mobilized maximum means and human resources, working all night to support and rescue people in trouble, contributing to limiting human and property damage. After the storm passed, they were also the main force to support people to overcome the consequences of storms and floods.
Rescue work all night, bring people to safety
According to the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department (PCCC&CNCH) of Gia Lai Provincial Police, on the night of November 6 and early morning of November 7, the unit promptly supported and rescued 21 incidents and accidents that occurred in the wards of Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon Nam, Binh Dinh, An Nhon Dong, Ayun Pa and the communes of Tuy Phuoc, An Nhon Tay...

The professional teams deployed 29 specialized vehicles and nearly 250 officers and soldiers to rescue 68 people who were trapped or had problems during the storm. At the same time, the unit received more than 105 reports of distress from people, many of which posted information on social networks. Due to the harsh weather, some areas were isolated and vehicles could not access, so the Fire Prevention and Rescue Force instructed and directly contacted the Commune Police to organize support and move people to safety.

As of 11:00 a.m. on November 7, the entire provincial police force had helped and rescued 1,440 people affected by storm Kalmaegi, and overcome 3 serious landslides. More than 2,826 officers and soldiers were mobilized to participate in rescue, evacuation, and support for people.
Currently, many communes and wards are still deeply flooded and isolated due to rising river water. Police forces across the province continue to be on duty, coordinating with local authorities to help overcome the consequences, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.

A bowl of porridge in the middle of the storm
Last night, November 6, at Nhon Chau island commune, officers and soldiers of Nhon Chau Border Guard Station also strained to respond to storm Kalmaegi with the spirit of "fighting the storm like fighting the enemy".
On the evening of November 6, Nhon Chau Border Guard Station welcomed more than 43 households with 80 people from Dong village to take shelter from the storm. The unit proactively arranged accommodation, prepared food, drinking water and essential necessities for the people. Amidst the rain, storm, power outage, strong winds, anxiety prevailed, but in the storm shelter of the station, the "charity porridge pots" were still steaming.

In addition to hot porridge, Nhon Chau Border Guard Station also prepared instant noodles and drinks to serve the people. This affection not only warmed the islanders during the stormy night but also demonstrated the spirit of solidarity and attachment between the armed forces and the people, a beautiful feature shining in the midst of the storm.
Along with that, right after the storm, the police of communes and wards in the province mobilized forces and vehicles to help people clear up fallen trees, fix damaged roofs, clean up mud, ensure smooth traffic and maintain security and order.

In Gia Lai province, storm No. 13 caused 199 houses to collapse, 12,447 houses to lose their roofs, 15 boats to sink, 42 boats to be damaged, 334 fishery cages to be swept away; many roads to collapse, thousands of hectares of rice and crops to be damaged, with an initial total estimated damage of more than VND5,000 billion.
