The spirit of the Russian October Revolution and the aspiration of the Vietnamese people to rise up in the new era

After more than 100 years, the lessons from the world's first proletarian revolution are still relevant, including the Vietnamese revolution.

On this occasion, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) respectfully introduces the article "The spirit of the Russian October Revolution and the aspiration of the Vietnamese people to rise up in the new era" by Master Dinh Cong Tuyen - lecturer at the Institute of Scientific Socialism, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics .

108 years ago, the Russian October Revolution broke out and won, shaking the world, opening a new era for mankind, the era of transition from capitalism to socialism on a global scale. For the Vietnamese revolution, the spirit of that revolution does not stop at the historical significance with the red thread of "national independence and socialism" in the 20th century, but today continues to be the driving force to ignite the will and aspiration to rise in the context of the new era, the era of national rise.

In the midst of the long night of slavery, November 7, 1917 marked the victory of the Russian October Revolution, opening a new page in world history. For the first time, socialism from theory became reality, breaking the colonial system of capitalism, strongly encouraging the national liberation movement around the world. In the 20th century, the national liberation movement was basically completed, the socialist system had a period of brilliant development, when it accounted for 1/4 of the area, 1/3 of the population, 2/5 of the industrial production value, 1/3 of the national income, and contained the humanistic values of the world. The birth of the Soviet state, and later the Soviet Union, established a counterweight to capitalism, awakening many working class movements around the world, forcing capitalism to adjust itself to cope and survive. The victory of the Revolution also demonstrated an invaluable lesson about the revolutionary path under the leadership of the Communist Party in terms of strategy, tactics and creative revolutionary methods, in accordance with the laws of historical development. Assessing the historical significance and stature of the Revolution, President Ho Chi Minh emphasized: “Like the dawn dispelling darkness, the October Revolution shed new light on human history,… opening a new era in history”.

More than a century has passed, the Russian October Revolution is still an immortal symbol of the desire for freedom. Although after 74 years of existence, the real socialist system experienced crisis and collapsed in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in 1991, many socialist countries remained steadfast and successful, typically Vietnam and China. This proves the truth: "The achievements of world-historic scale and stature of socialism are undeniable, it was once a value that demonstrated the superior nature of socialism, forever imprinted in the conscience and memory of humanity".

Under the brilliant light of the Russian October Revolution, the Communist Party of Vietnam has firmly steered, leading the nation through thousands of storms, writing brilliant golden pages of history! From the great victory of the August Revolution in 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, to the resounding victory that shook the world in two long resistance wars, it is an immortal journey of indomitable will and aspiration for independence and freedom. After the era of independence, freedom, building socialism and the era of renovation, we now have enough potential to step into a new era, the era of national growth.

Today, the victory of the Russian October Revolution has highlighted the aspirations of our nation. If in 1917, VI Lenin and the Bolshevik Party led the Russian people to rise up to carry out a socialist revolution to change the destiny of the nation, today, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, our people are still firmly choosing the path to socialism with 8 characteristics, 8 directions, and 10 universal relationships.

Regarding the ideological foundation, the draft documents of the 14th National Congress emphasize “Firmly applying and creatively developing Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought” and “steadfastly pursuing the goals of national independence and socialism”. Moreover, the draft documents of the 14th National Congress for the first time add “theory on the path of innovation” as a component of the Party’s ideological foundation. This is a creative application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought, affirming the model of Vietnamese socialism with three fundamental pillars: a socialist-oriented market economy, a socialist rule-of-law state, and socialist democracy.

Economically, the revolutionary spirit, overcoming difficulties, and determination to change destiny are the core values of the October Revolution in Russia, especially "building bridges over capitalism".

Over the period of innovation in Vietnam, it has been concretized by the mindset of daring to think, daring to do, daring to innovate, expressed in the strong affirmation of the goal of developing a prosperous and happy country; becoming a developed country with high income by the middle of the 21st century; clearly stating the motto of "self-reliance, self-reliance, self-confidence, integration", reflecting the spirit of "mastering one's destiny" left by the October Revolution; at the same time focusing on perfecting the socialist-oriented market economic institution, promoting private economic motivation, implementing digital transformation, green transformation, etc.

Politically, the October Revolution has demonstrated the role of the sole leadership of the Communist Party, the first worker-peasant state in the world, bringing mastery to the people, which we have strongly promoted. Promoting this value, the draft document of the 14th Congress affirms that "Maintaining and strengthening the leadership, ruling role and fighting strength of the Communist Party of Vietnam is the decisive factor for all victories". In particular, the draft identifies the strategic task of "Strengthening the building, rectification, and self-renewal so that our Party is truly moral and civilized", aiming to improve political capacity, intellectual level, and overcome limitations and weaknesses so that the Party is worthy of being the vanguard leading the nation. Along with that is the "rearrangement of the country", when implementing a 2-level local government, meeting the requirements of national development in the new period.

Regarding culture and society, if the October Revolution placed faith in the historical role of the people, on the basis of workers - farmers - soldiers, the draft documents of the 14th Congress affirmed that development takes people as the center, concretized by policies on human resource development, ensuring social security, building cultural life, aiming at the goal of "leaving no one behind", realizing the socialist ideal in the new era.

Regarding national defense, the victory of the Russian October Revolution and the process of building socialism, the collapse in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe also taught us an invaluable lesson that VI Lenin pointed out: "A revolution is only valuable when it knows how to defend itself." Now, our Party clearly points out that it is necessary to resolutely and persistently defend independence, unity, territorial integrity and national interests, protect the Party, the State, the regime and the people. Along with that is strategic autonomy in enhancing national defense strength, preventing risks early and from afar, focusing on building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern armed force.

Despite many ups and downs, even failures, the flame of the October Revolution has not been extinguished, but has blended into the flow of history, becoming a part of the flesh and blood of the will and aspiration of the Vietnamese people. From the aspiration for liberation to the aspiration for prosperity and happiness, that spirit remains intact. Entering a new era of the nation, the lesson of initiative, creativity and mettle from the October Revolution becomes even more valuable. Today's generation, instead of holding guns, will hold technology, knowledge and will to continue writing new pages of history, realizing the aspiration of a heroic nation, a "peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, prosperous, civilized and happy socialist Vietnam".
