According to UN Tourism, with this new name, the Organization once again affirms its role as the United Nations' specialized agency for tourism and a global leader in tourism development, promoting socio-economic development to ensure that "people and planet" are always at the center.
By eliminating acronyms, UN Tourism adopts a more accessible perspective and capitalizes on its strengths. “UN” (United Nations) the highest authority and “Tourism”, a simple and understandable concept for everyone.
Along with the name change, the United Nations Tourism Organization also introduced a new slogan “Bringing the World Closer” along with a logo inspired by the concept of Pangea (a supercontinent) with a moving human figure.

“As societies evolve, tourism, like many other sectors, needs to transform itself to act as a catalyst for prosperity on a global scale,” said Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism Organization. “Enhancing individual well-being, protecting the natural environment, and promoting economic progress and international harmony are the core objectives and essence of the United Nations Tourism Organization.”
With 160 member countries and hundreds of private sector associate members, the UNT is headquartered in Madrid, Spain, with regional offices in Japan for Asia-Pacific, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) for the Middle East, and soon to be in Brazil for the Americas and Morocco for Africa.
UN Tourism prioritizes the promotion of tourism for sustainable development, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Global Goals. UN Tourism promotes quality education, supports decent work in the sector, fosters innovation, and accelerates environmental and climate action in the tourism sector.
UN Tourism said the new brand will be gradually rolled out across all touchpoints with the organization over the coming months.
