High-level task force to combat smuggling and counterfeit goods inspects Mong Cai city

The work of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee on the peak of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods led by Comrade Cao Tuong Huy, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, inspected and worked with Mong Cai City to assess the situation and results of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods during the peak of Tet and since the beginning of the year.

In the first 5 months of the year, the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in Mong Cai City has been proactively and resolutely deployed by the functional forces under the City Steering Committee 389. In particular, implementing the direction of the Government and the Provincial People's Committee on launching a peak period to prevent and combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights, Mong Cai City People's Committee has established an interdisciplinary working group to inspect counterfeit goods, fake goods, goods of unknown origin, and goods infringing intellectual property rights to grasp the situation in key areas in the area.

With close direction and effective coordination between functional forces, the situation of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in Mong Cai City is well controlled. The city has no "hot spots", no formation of smuggling lines, smuggling, transporting and storing of smuggled goods; no discovery of establishments producing counterfeit and poor quality goods related to food, functional foods and medicines.

In the first 5 months of the year, the authorities detected, arrested and handled 191 violations involving 189 subjects related to smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, banned goods and food safety violations. Of these, 139 cases involved illegal trading, transportation and gathering of banned and smuggled goods; 38 cases involved commercial fraud, tax evasion and 14 cases involved production, trading and purchase of counterfeit goods. At the same time, 180 administrative violations were handled with a total amount of over 2.3 billion VND; 8 cases involved criminal prosecution of 15 subjects for smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

Directly inspecting import and export activities at Bac Luan II border gate and some commercial business locations in Mong Cai city and working with the Steering Committee 389 of Mong Cai city, Comrade Cao Tuong Huy, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, emphasized: The work of preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods is being vigorously implemented by the province and localities, especially in border areas such as Mong Cai city. Implementing the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 65 dated May 15, 2025 on launching a peak period to prevent smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and infringement of intellectual property rights, Quang Ninh province has established a special working group under the direct direction of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, developing a specific action plan and resolutely implementing it in key areas.

With the significance of the peak period, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested: Resolutely not to let establishments produce and trade in counterfeit and smuggled goods, especially dirty food, which affects the health of the people and consumers. The functional agencies of the province must truly play a core role, be the pioneer force, directly detect, handle and eradicate smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods right from the grassroots.

Departments, branches and localities must strengthen propaganda work so that people understand and deter violators. Along with that, review production licenses, especially food production facilities for goods; enhance the responsibility of leaders at all levels, branches and localities, must be linked to the results of the work of preventing and combating smuggling and trade fraud.

He also noted the need to promptly advise on the consolidation of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, ensuring suitability and effectiveness when the two-level local government model will officially be implemented from July 1, 2025.

Regarding Mong Cai city, he suggested that the locality pay special attention to and study the implementation of smart border gates at Bac Luan I and Bac Luan II border gates; strengthen coordination between functional forces in the border area to carry out tasks in the prevention of smuggling and counterfeit goods.
