Breakthrough from the complexes
Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) has successfully implemented two aluminum complexes in Tan Rai and Nhan Co. These are two large-scale investment projects, laying the initial foundation for the aluminum industry in Vietnam.

Of which, Nhan Co Alumina Complex has a total investment of 16,821 billion VND and has been put into commercial operation since July 1, 2017. The project has a mine design capacity of 4,500,000 tons/year. The design capacity of the beneficiation plant is 1,650,000 tons/year. The design capacity of the alumina plant is 650,000 tons of alumina/year.
Director of Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV Nguyen Ba Phong said that, as of December 31, 2024, this complex has produced 5.47 million tons of converted alumina; paid 4,438 billion VND to the State budget. Of which, in 2024 alone, the complex paid 538 billion VND to the budget, accounting for about 17.4% of Dak Nong 's total budget revenue.

Nhan Co Alumina Factory is currently creating direct jobs for over 1,100 workers; most of whom are local people. The average income per capita of the unit is over 15 million VND/month. These are the figures that most clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the project.
For Tan Rai Alumina Complex ( Lam Dong ) with a designed capacity of 650,000 tons of alumina/year, with a total investment of 15,414 billion VND. This complex was put into commercial operation from October 1, 2013.
As of March 31, 2024, Tan Rai Complex has produced 7.47 million tons of converted alumina, contributing more than VND 5,300 billion to the State budget. At the same time, it has created jobs for over 1,000 workers, with a current income of over VND 16 million/person/month.

Not only contributing to the budget, the two complexes Nhan Co and Tan Rai also play an important role in promoting socio-economic development for localities. Since its operation, TKV has spent hundreds of billions of VND on social security programs in Dak Nong and Lam Dong.
TKV has fulfilled the five requirements set out earlier, such as: ensuring the natural environment; maintaining security and national defense; preserving local cultural identity; promoting economic and social development; developing transport infrastructure...
Aluminum products from both factories are of high quality and have been exported to major markets such as India, Korea, Japan, etc. This shows that the competitiveness of Vietnam's aluminum industry is being firmly consolidated.
Ready for the new phase
Based on the success of two pilot projects, the Prime Minister recently approved the "Development Strategy of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group to 2030, with a vision to 2045" for TKV.

The strategy clearly sets the target for the period 2021 - 2030, TKV's aluminum products will reach from 1.4 - 2.8 million tons/year. By 2030, TKV strives to produce the first ton of aluminum ingots.
In the period 2031 - 2045, the group's alumina output will increase sharply, reaching 4 - 6 million tons/year; of which, 1 - 2 million tons/year will be used for aluminum electrolysis and 0.5 - 1 million tons/year for aluminum ingots.
The strategy also orients that TKV will take the lead in developing the mineral industry, from the exploration and exploitation of bauxite to the development of the alumina-aluminum production industry. From there, it will create a driving force to develop the aluminum industry in Vietnam.

To concretize the goal, in this period, TKV will invest in expanding the capacity of Tan Rai and Nhan Co alumina complexes to about 2 million tons of alumina/year/complex.
TKV newly invested in Dak Nong 2 Bauxite - Alumina - Aluminum Complex with a capacity of 2 million tons of alumina/year, 0.5 million tons of aluminum/year and the Aluminum Electrolysis Plant Project in Lam Dong province with a capacity of 0.5 million tons/year.
It is noteworthy that the projects will be developed right on the site of the existing alumina factory, helping to maximize the use of existing infrastructure and reduce investment costs for businesses.
In particular, the Group will complete the Dak Nong 2 Aluminum Electrolysis Plant Project in 2030, to increase the value of deep processing, contributing to building Dak Nong into a national aluminum industrial center.

These newly implemented projects are completely consistent with the mineral planning, as well as the current capabilities and technical advances in alumina production. Investment costs and time will be reduced thanks to the connection and maximum use of the infrastructure invested in phase 1.
Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, General Director of TKV informed that after being fully invested, the projects will help increase the operational safety coefficient and technological backup system for the entire factory, thanks to the technological interconnection between the existing and new lines.
TKV will focus on maximizing the investment efficiency of the complexes by applying advanced technology techniques to invest in new production lines on the available land of operating projects.

The Government, the National Assembly, the Politburo and relevant ministries and branches have agreed on the development orientation of the aluminum industry in the Central Highlands region.
Dak Nong and Lam Dong are the core. The support from local authorities further strengthens TKV's determination to soon turn the red basalt land into a national aluminum industrial center.
With a solid foundation, long-term vision and synchronous investment in technology, human resources and infrastructure, Vietnam's bauxite - alumina - aluminum industry is gradually affirming its position on the world map.
