Vaccination for pets
According to a report from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), in April, an outbreak of lumpy skin disease (LSD) was detected in Khanh Hoa province. Previously, this dangerous disease also occurred in Quang Ngai province with 4 outbreaks and currently the outbreaks have not passed 21 days.
According to the provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock, although Phu Yen has not yet recorded any cases of ASF in cattle and buffalo, this disease is occurring in many other localities in the country, including Khanh Hoa and Quang Ngai provinces, which are two neighboring localities of our province, so the risk of infection and outbreak of ASF in livestock is very high. Along with that, the current hot weather creates favorable conditions for insects to be active, which are intermediate agents transmitting ASF in livestock, so there is a high risk of an outbreak. Therefore, livestock farmers must not be subjective, must be proactive and actively prevent ASF in livestock.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phung in An Phu commune (Tuy Hoa city) said: In the past few days, every night my family has burned straw to smoke to repel mosquitoes, the area around the barn is always cleaned. The family also cleared the drainage ditches to prevent stagnant water for flies and mosquitoes to breed. Sometimes I also use insecticide to spray the entire barn area, killing flies, mosquitoes, ticks, and gnats, hoping to protect the herd of cows.
As the disease can break out at any time, it is essential to maintain and improve preventive measures. Farmers need to continue to implement disease prevention measures, especially ensuring that all required vaccines are fully vaccinated, so that the livestock can achieve the highest level of disease protection.
Mr. Truong Van Binh, Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock
In order to improve the effectiveness of preventing ASF, the Veterinary Department and localities are focusing on organizing ASF vaccination for buffaloes and cows. The whole province has vaccinated 55,191 buffaloes and cows, accounting for about 60% of the total herd (as of May 26). Mr. Truong Van Binh, Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock, said: To effectively prevent ASF, the State is providing free ASF vaccines, however, farmers have not actively cooperated, so the vaccination rate is still low. Currently, the Veterinary Department continues to coordinate with localities to propagate and mobilize people to vaccinate at the required rate, so that livestock are protected from the disease. On the part of livestock farmers, we should not be subjective or negligent with this disease. Although FMD does not cause mass deaths of livestock, it causes livestock to eat poorly, become exhausted, develop slowly, and lose milk for livestock that are nursing... causing economic losses.
"While the disease can break out at any time, maintaining and improving preventive measures is extremely necessary. Livestock farmers need to continue implementing disease prevention measures, especially ensuring full vaccination as prescribed, so that livestock can achieve the highest level of disease protection," said Mr. Truong Van Binh, Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock.
In addition, the veterinary sector and local authorities are also strengthening monitoring, early detection and timely handling of outbreaks (if any), preventing widespread spread. Localities are also organizing general cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of livestock environments, instructing people to implement biosafety measures, and improving livestock resistance.
Tighten the buying and selling and transporting of livestock
Currently, VDNC is occurring in neighboring provinces. Therefore, strict control of the transportation of animals and animal products right from the gateway to the province is considered an effective solution, helping Phu Yen proactively detect and prevent epidemics from afar. Animal control work is being carried out seriously and strictly by the province at Hao Son Animal Quarantine Station (Dong Hoa Town). All means of transporting animals and animal products transiting through the station or entering the province must have full quarantine papers and disease safety certificates of the farm and animals. Animal products must have documents proving their origin, healthy animals and no clinical symptoms of diseases...
Mr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, Deputy Head of the Hao Son Animal Quarantine Station, said: The station always has a force on duty 24/24 hours a day, ensuring that all animals and animal products passing through the station are inspected and controlled according to regulations. After inspection, if all requirements are met, the station staff will spray disinfectant on all animals and vehicles to destroy pathogens remaining on the vehicles before allowing them to enter the province, helping to limit the spread of diseases from other localities into the province, protecting the epidemiological safety of the local livestock industry. Cases without a valid quarantine certificate or failing to ensure veterinary hygiene conditions will be strictly handled according to the law.
