Speaking intimately with a large number of overseas Vietnamese, General Secretary To Lam expressed his joy at visiting Kazakhstan for the first time as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam , marking an important development step in the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Kazakhstan - a traditional friend of Vietnam since the Soviet era.
General Secretary To Lam and his wife had a friendly meeting with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Kazakhstan.
Informing the people about the situation of the country, the General Secretary emphasized that after nearly 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has achieved important achievements in many fields, from politics , economy, to culture, foreign affairs, national defense and security. The political, economic, cultural, social, scientific - technological, national defense and security potential has been constantly improved. Foreign affairs activities have also achieved many important achievements.
Regarding Vietnam-Kazakhstan relations, the General Secretary said that the two countries have just agreed to establish relations to the level of Strategic Partnership, in line with the wishes and interests of Vietnam and Kazakhstan. Notably, economic and trade cooperation has been developing positively in recent times, with trade turnover in 2024 reaching about 800 million USD, an increase of 99% over the same period. Cooperation in the fields of tourism, culture, education - training, and people-to-people exchange has also recorded many positive results.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized: “Cooperation with Kazakhstan is one of our strategic cooperation in expanding the development of the country in the new era. The very important point is that your vision and development orientation have many overlaps with ours and you also want to proactively coordinate and connect with us as a bridge in the process of cooperation with Central Asian countries”.
The General Secretary was pleased to see that although the Vietnamese community in Kazakhstan is not large, it has deeply integrated into the local society and is growing, and highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity, deep integration, and efforts to preserve the national cultural identity of the Vietnamese community in Kazakhstan.
The General Secretary highly appreciated and acknowledged the contributions of the Vietnamese Association and the Association of Young Vietnamese Intellectuals in Kazakhstan, hoping that these organizations would continue to promote their core role as a solid bridge connecting overseas Vietnamese with their homeland.
Praising the positive contributions to foreign affairs, citizen protection and community building of the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Kazakhstan, the General Secretary asked the staff to continue to promote their bravery, professionalism and sense of responsibility, contributing to the relationship between Vietnam and the host countries, serving the cause of defending the Fatherland and developing the country into an era of national growth, imbued with the spirit of serving the people, always being a reliable support for the community, protecting the rights and legitimate interests of the people.
On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam sent his sincere regards and wishes for health, happiness and success to all staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Kazakhstan.
