Summary of the breeding chicken model in Phong Hai commune

On November 7, the Center for Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Services of Lao Cai province held a conference to summarize and evaluate the results of the 18M1 breeding chicken model in 2025 in Phong Hai commune.

The model was deployed on a scale of 2,000 18M1 parent chickens, in 4 households.

Participating households are supported with breeds, mixed feed, biological products, disinfectants, vaccines and incubators; and are 100% trained in livestock farming and disease prevention techniques.

Actual results show that the survival rate of the chicken flock is over 90%, good health, and highly adaptable to weather conditions.

After 13 weeks of raising, the average weight reached 1.5 kg/chicken, meeting the standard of a reserve chicken; the hens achieved a productivity of 270 - 290 eggs/chicken/year, with a hatching rate of over 98%, expected to supply the market with 400,000 - 500,000 chicks each year, meeting the needs of households and farms in the province.

The model aims to demonstrate and transfer technical advances in raising the new breeding chicken breed 18M1, which is a quality chicken breed crossbred from 18GA04 roosters and LV hens according to the technical process of the Center for Bee Research and Livestock Technology Transfer.

Quality chickens are ready to be supplied to farmers.

The 18M1 chicken breed has been put into trial breeding for broilers in Phong Hai commune since 1 year ago, showing that the meat quality is delicious, firm, beautiful appearance, meeting the market demand well. During the breeding process, the rate of chickens getting sick is very low, demonstrating the adaptability and high resistance of the breed.

From the initial results, the Provincial Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Services Center requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to direct the replication of the 18M1 breeding chicken model in key livestock areas of the province, in order to meet the local poultry breeding source, serving livestock farming. At the same time, it requested the People's Committee of Phong Hai commune and localities to strengthen propaganda, encourage people to apply this effective livestock farming model, contributing to the transfer of technical advances, developing agricultural economy and building new rural areas.
