According to the Brazilian news agency Agência Brasil , at a press conference on March 14, Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of the Asia-Pacific region Eduardo Paes Saboia said that Mercosur members are showing strong support for this trade agreement.
However, he also emphasized that the success of the agreement depends not only on Brazil's efforts but also on Japan's consensus.
Another top priority during the Brazilian President's visit is to secure a commitment from Japan to send a medical technical delegation to the South American country to evaluate beef production processes.
This is an important step forward in the Brazilian livestock industry's efforts to access the Japanese market, after the issue was raised by President Lula during a meeting last year with then-Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
Japan's beef market has an import value of up to 4 billion USD per year, accounting for 70% of total domestic consumption. Currently, the US and Australia are occupying up to 80% of this import market share.
