The executive order signed by Mr. Trump sets a 180-day deadline for the AI Action Plan (AIAP), with the ambition of “maintaining and enhancing America’s global AI dominance to advance human development, economic competitiveness, and national security.”
The new President's goal is to "make America the AI capital of the world."
Additionally, Mr. Trump asked his AI adviser and national security aide to continue working to eliminate policies and regulations previously signed by former President Joe Biden.
Earlier, on the day of his inauguration, the US President revoked an executive order signed by his predecessor Joe Biden in 2023, requiring technology companies to share the results of testing risks caused by AI before releasing products to the public.
In 2024, the US Republican Party announced that it would abolish decrees that hinder the development of AI, and at the same time "support the development of AI based on freedom of speech and human development".
A week before Trump’s inauguration, former President Joe Biden issued an executive order providing federal support for the high energy demands of AI data centers, calling for leasing space owned by the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy for these centers.
So far, the new US President has not abolished this decree.
