US President Donald Trump signs executive order restricting Harvard student visas

(Dan Tri) - On June 4 (US time), the White House announced that US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to restrict visa issuance for international students wishing to study at Harvard University.

This is the latest move in a series of escalating tensions that show no signs of stopping between the US government and America's top prestigious university.

“I believe it is necessary to restrict the entry of foreign nationals who intend to enter the United States solely to attend classes at Harvard University or to participate in academic exchange programs sponsored by the school,” Mr. Trump declared.

Previously, on May 27, US media reported that the US State Department had directed all US embassies and consulates worldwide to temporarily suspend issuing new appointments for the review process of student visas to the US.

The move comes as the Trump administration expands measures, including social media checks for all applicants for student visas in the US, to give authorities more information about each student’s views and opinions.

The US State Department is reviewing its entire screening and vetting process for student and exchange visas, according to US media reports. The agency will soon issue new guidance on screening social media accounts for all visa applications in this category.
