US President Donald Trump said he will give Ukraine until next Thursday to accept a US peace plan, which includes key Russian demands that Ukraine pledge not to join NATO, make concessions and recognize Russian-controlled territories in the country.
"I believe this can be used as a basis for a final peaceful settlement," Mr Putin told senior officials at a meeting of Russia's Security Council.

Mr Putin added that he had not yet discussed Mr Trump's 28-point plan in detail with the US side, but Russia had received a copy of it.
The Russian president said Ukraine opposed the plan but neither Kiev nor its European allies understood the reality that Russian forces were dominating the battlefield and would continue to advance without peace.
"So far, the US administration has not received consent from the Ukrainian side. Ukraine opposes that," Mr. Putin said.
Mr Putin said Russian forces had taken control of almost the entire city of Kupiansk in northeastern Ukraine on 4 November – despite Kiev’s denials – and such advances would continue if Ukraine rejected the US plan.
“If Kiev does not want to discuss President Trump’s proposal and refuses to do so, then both it and the European warmongers should understand that the events that took place in Kupiansk will inevitably be repeated in other key areas of the front,” Putin said.
Russia controls more than 19% of Ukraine, or 115,500 square kilometers, up just 1% from two years ago. Russia wants to gain control of the entire Donbass region, including Donetsk and Luhansk provinces, as well as all of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that Ukraine was facing a difficult choice in the face of the US peace plan, between honor and Washington's support.
Mr Putin also said that Russia had discussed Mr Trump's peace plan before the August summit in Alaska, and that Moscow had made compromises at Washington's request.
