At 7:00 p.m., the car carrying the group of 4 people departed from the gate of Cuc Phuong National Park. From here, they followed the asphalt road into the forest for about 4 km, and the group stopped in front of a small trail by the roadside. The night walking tour of the forest started from this location.
The number of guests is recommended to be limited to less than 10 people to avoid creating noise, affecting the natural habitat of flora and fauna. Each group will be accompanied by 1 tour guide.
Mr. Tran Quang Phuong (48 years old, Head of the Environmental Education Team, Center for Environmental Education and Services of Cuc Phuong National Park), has 25 years of experience in research and field surveys in this area. In recent years, Mr. Phuong has also led tours in the forest at night.
“Normally, the night animal viewing tour will last from 2.5 to 3 hours. The distance will depend on the needs of the tourists. If tourists want to see small animals such as insects, the distance will be about 4 km. If tourists want to see some animals such as civets, wild cats, loris, etc., they can choose a route of about 10 km,” Mr. Phuong shared.
According to Mr. Phuong, this is a difficult walking route. Visitors must climb over rocky cliffs, requiring a certain level of health and knowledge of the forest.
To ensure safety, visitors are advised to wear long-sleeved shirts, gloves, protective hats, and insect repellent. “Visitors should also prepare hiking shoes with long socks that cover their feet, preferably rain boots to avoid being bitten by leeches or snakes,” Mr. Phuong added.
Tourist Tran Vuong Hao (27 years old, Cau Giay District, Hanoi ) recently experienced a night tour by electric car in Cuc Phuong forest. After that, he continued to register for a walking tour to see wild animals at night. “This is really a very valuable experience for me. For this adventure tour, the number of participants is smaller so I can concentrate better. After the tour, I want to have the opportunity to experience longer and more difficult routes. Hopefully next time I will be able to admire more wild animals,” said Mr. Hao.
Visitors can sign up for a night walking tour to see wildlife at Cuc Phuong National Park every day of the week. In addition to the entrance fee of 60,000 VND (adults) and 10,000 VND (children under 10 years old), the tour guide fee is 800,000 VND.
Cuc Phuong National Park is a nature reserve and special-use forest located in the three provinces of Ninh Binh , Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh with an area of 22,408 hectares. The park has a diverse ecosystem, characterized by a tropical climate with rocky terrain. In the rainy season, the hot and humid weather increases the difficulty, a challenge for adventurous tourists.

Mr. Phuong shared that he had many memorable experiences since working as a tour guide. “On a recent night tour, we encountered illegal loggers. At that time, we had to protect the safety of the group and chase away the illegal loggers. Luckily, the trip ended well, no one was injured,” Mr. Phuong shared. TUAN MINH
