According to experts, identifying and narrowing down the list of great destinations to visit in 2025 is no easy task. Most travel enthusiasts suffer from the same "disease" of not being able to satisfy the desire to go everywhere, see everything, and be overwhelmed by the diverse and rich world .
So destinations must be places that promise a sense of new beginnings, being reshaped through newly opened activities, destinations that are developing or just starting out.
According to American magazine CNTraveller, Ho Chi Minh City is seizing the moment to become a cultural hotspot in Southeast Asia just 50 years after the country's reunification - an event that will be held next year.
The list highlights Vietnam’s most populous city as having emerged as one of the fastest-growing tourism hubs in the world, breaking pre-pandemic records by a wide margin. So there’s no better time to visit than 2025 – exactly 50 years after the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Ho Chi Minh City is gearing up to announce a number of major events, exhibitions and celebrations, marking the half-century of national reunification.
Notably, visitors to Ho Chi Minh City in the new year can use Terminal 3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport, which will open in 2025, followed by Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1, which will officially come into operation in December 2024.
In addition, the city's iconic Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera is also set to undergo renovation, and more hotels are expected to open soon, such as IHG's Hotel Indigo and the Kengo Kuma-designed Kempinski Saigon River.
In addition to its urban and tourism infrastructure, Ho Chi Minh City is also known as one of Southeast Asia’s cultural hubs – a regional hub for commerce, cuisine and fashion . The second Asian destination to make the top 25 best places to visit in 2025 is Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad) in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. A cultural tourist destination with unique spiritual experiences, the city is ranked 18th on the list.
