There is no longer the scene of jostling to "hunt" for discounted branded goods on Black Friday like in previous years, the shopping atmosphere in Ho Chi Minh City is just more exciting than usual.
However, big discount programs of up to 80% on this occasion also have a significant attraction for people and tourists when visiting and shopping at supermarkets and large stores in Ho Chi Minh City.
At many large shopping malls in Ho Chi Minh City, Black Friday shopping activity started to increase slightly in the morning, gradually increased towards noon and is expected to be more exciting at the end of the day.
According to a representative of a footwear brand at Saigon Centre, the Black Friday shopping season lasts for about a week. Discount programs are carefully implemented in many forms, from 30-50% off depending on the product and year of manufacture, or buy 1 get 1 free.
Purchasing power had started to increase a few days before Friday, but was more active on the day itself. The unit expected revenue to increase compared to the same period after the next 2 weekends.
Similarly, many fashion brands in shopping malls also offer huge discounts, stimulating people to choose and shop.
According to Nguyen Thi Hoa, a fashion saleswoman at a shopping mall, deeply discounted products are often from last year's collections or produced 1-2 years ago.
New collections are often discounted by 10-30%. However, many consumers still enjoy shopping for “outdated” items because of the good materials, beautiful designs, and suitability.
Ms. Duong Thi Thanh, Marketing Director of V-SIXTYFOUR brand, said that purchasing power of promotional programs in November increased about 20% compared to before.
Consumers focus on jean product lines with new designs, environmentally friendly and recycled materials, with discounts from 20-50%.
“Instead of deep discounts, we diversify our promotions such as combo sales, free sales, and gifts. Currently, customers want to spend quickly, so cashback programs are not suitable. Along with direct promotions, we also promote livestreaming during this time," Ms. Thanh shared.
Ms. Lai Ngoc Minh (Dien Hong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) took the opportunity to go to the center to hunt for promotional items on Black Friday. According to Ms. Minh, the discounts this year are quite deep, extending to many product groups, from cosmetics, fashion (shoes, clothes) to gold and silver jewelry and high-end accessories.
However, with the difficult economic situation and a reduced shopping budget, Ms. Minh has to consider carefully before deciding to spend money. "From my experience during the sales seasons, I have learned that I should only focus on necessary items, not just because the product is discounted or cheap, and then when I look through the closet, I see that the item still has its original tags. Many products are heavily discounted but are not very practical, so I limit spending money," Ms. Minh said.
According to market experts, this year's Black Friday shopping season in Ho Chi Minh City did not record a sudden surge in purchasing power, because many promotional programs were organized consecutively, from double days on e-commerce platforms, to concentrated shopping activities, and Mega Sale programs organized sporadically from the beginning of November until now.
Not to mention, brands at the shopping mall also run many promotions, helping to spread purchasing power throughout the month.
According to the representative of Estella Place Shopping Center, the end of the year is always the peak shopping season, the number of customers and spending also increases significantly. To meet the demand, the unit has launched many attractive promotions from brands or by season. Black Friday is an important occasion in the year-end shopping season.
However, not only focusing on promotions and discounts, the company also focuses on improving the shopping experience for customers, maintaining connections with people and tourists to maximize the market.
The Black Friday atmosphere also spreads to many stores, fashion streets, electronics centers, and even luxury items such as jewelry, phones, laptops, on e-commerce platforms...
Many brands consider this an opportunity to thank customers, while also improving and "running" sales for the year-end business season.
Although Black Friday did not originate in Vietnam, it is receiving positive response from consumers in Ho Chi Minh City.
With many promotional programs lasting until the end of the weekend, many brands expect purchasing power to be vibrant and revenue on Black Friday 2025 to grow more strongly than the same period./.
